Now, i live in the UK so i dont really understand this, why is it that ALMOST all americans hate the canadians, like nearly all americans dont like avril lavigne or nickelback just because they are canadian, i dont have a problem with canadians or americans so it makes no difference to me, if some one could clear this up for me it would be great thanks.
My friend has a obsession with Canadians. I have no problems with Canadians. In fact, I envy them in some ways. I don't know anyone in real life who is Canadian, which I think sucks. :\ I want to move to Canada.. :\
I met some Canadians while I was in Mexico... there awesome people... I love the way they say "eh" after everything like... Whats going on, eh? I LOVE THAT... lol
Those people should be shot and hung, and I'm canadian! They're just prolonging a terrible stereotype. Absolutely no one does that, judging by the people I know! America is angry at everything. Some Americans call us freeloaders, but who the hell is America going to cling to, they're the most powerful country in the world. And Canada is the US' biggest economic trade partner, nearly 80% of all free trade with America is with Canada. I read that in Macleans Magazine. But it's true not many bands get big and become mainstream acts in the US, but usually when those bands break through, they're quite talented. There are many untalented US groups in the mainstream music genre right now, I think some Caandian bands are helping to refresh it.
I personally think the "America vs. Canada" thing is waaaaaay overblown. Yes, there are racist idiots out there, but honestly I think if you walk up to the average American and ask them if they hate Canada they'll tell you they don't. And in most cases I think that's true. Like I said, yes there are people who hate Canadians (and I assume there are Canadians who hate Americans) but they're always the people who make the most noise, while the rest of us are just quietly thinking that they're racist idiots.
Very true. I talk to people online from lots of places, and a couple are from Canada. I don't have a problem with Canadians, *looks at Aaron and Mark* most are really cool
I'm American and I have absolutely no problem with Canadians. I've never met anyone who has, either. I think Canada is cool, all the pictures I've seen of the wildlife and countryside have been gorgeous. I would like to visit Canada one day. For some reason I always imagine Canadians to be nice, easy-going people.
I'm Canadian myself, and the US and Canada are very similar in terms of culture. Of course there is more of a winter culture in Canada, we have our own quirks but we are pretty similar Out of all the people I know, the only real 'Anti-Americanism' that goes on is hating Bush, pretty much every Canadian does NOT like Bush and American policies. I guess being the wealthiest country gives you a sort of 'superiority complex', as with us we are a lot more laid back than Americans. We also tend to be more Liberal SOCIALLY. I mean, marijuana is just about to be decriminalized and gay marriages are legal. But I have no problem with American people, on the whole they are just as nice or nicer than people I live around! @ Eilonwy: yeah most of us are easy-going, myself included. We do have a lot of wildlife and stuff. In the summer I go to a 'cottage' with no electricity, outhouses, and a huge lake with a landing and only one other cottage on the lake. Its great, we hunt moose up there, drive ATVs and bikes, go fishing...thats one great thing about Canada. If you do go one place though, it should be to the Rockies, its soooo beautiful there!
That's cool! I wish I could go hiking or something there. I love going to the mountains, so I would love to see the Rockies. I would imagine there's a lot less pollution in Canada, too.
I've heard Banff, Alberta is a very very beautiful place all-year round. [/b][/quote] Yeah, I have been there in the summer, but in the winter it would rock to go over there and Ski! @ Eilonwy, as for pollution, in the past little while I've only been to the upper states (Vermont, New Hampshire, Wisconisn, etc) so I don't think I can give you the best comparison. I went to Cleveland last year, and its pretty much exactly like Toronto (Cleveland's maybe a bit bigger), our biggest city, in terms of how it looked. Mind you, we only have three cities (including Toronto) with populations of over 1 million people. So yeah, i guess its pretty clean up here! I myself live in a village of under a 1000 people. The closest 'city' to us has like 100 000 people but its a good 30-40 minutes away. And we're in one of the most populated regions!
I'm British, I've never been to America or Canada but I'm sure they're awesome places. I never knew there was some hostility between these two countries. They're quite similar in culture so I don't see where all the hatred comes from.
Wow. I thought my town was small. We have about 50,000 people, I think. I would like to live in a really unpopulated area, I think. I'm not good with people. Canada sounds really nice.
Not really a hostility Its more a difference in ideas, and that creates conflict. How many friends of yours have you not been mad at? Its just you have differences in opinion. American's policies are more self-centred (low taxes, little social services) and conservative in nature, while Canadians are more liberal in nature (allows gay marriages, free medical care, well-funded education (for the most part), and generous welfare programs) as well as being more open to new ideas too (not as strict when it comes to stuff like immigration and the environment). But that tends to effect people on the political level. Americans and Canadians from my experience get along fine!
