Now that it's officially out, I wanted to see other peoples opinions and thoughts on Joe.

Where is he? Am I missing it?

And why isn't he so prevalent like every other album before?

    Let's discuss!:awesome:

Maybe, because he's busy with his movie? Also, Isn't this like the same way a thousand suns didn't have a lot of Brad's guitar in it. Mike actually said in a recent interview that he played most of the guitar on a thousand suns himself I think.

He was probably busy eating cheeseburgers.

Joe hasn't been prevalent since Meteora in my opinion.

    But he's there.

But can you really differentiate between "Brad's guitar" and Shinoda's guitar?

Unfortunately for Joe, a lot of his work is likely on the brainstorming end and critique end more than he is directly recording sounds. He's on Hunting Party too, but you'd have to listen very carefully.

    LP is weird band man.
Honestly not any of us know what Joe truly contributes with in the band.
We know that Rob plays drums, we know that Brad does some guitar work and is a co-op producer with Shinoda on the record.
We don't know rather or not Chester actually wrote any lyrics for this record or came up with the melodies or if Mike did most of that himself.

The only thing that is for sure with this band is that Mike probably has something to do with most of the things you hear.

I feel like Joe is really the only uncertainty. I'm fairly confident that Chester wrote some of the lyrics. There's a couple you can kind of be sure are Mike's. Like the intro to ALITS screams Mike. But even though we can't be sure who wrote what, I feel like it's a safe the 2 worked together on them at the very least. Where as Joe, can't really be sure

I wouldn't be surprised if joe wasn't responsible for all the weird little interludes and sounds heard in THP. :bradwink:

I think it's quite safe to assume that he and Shinoda do an equal amount of writing at the end of the day, at least when it comes to vocals.

I agree, but for some reason I'm under the impression that Mike does all these things.

^ I might agree - the conceptual sides of the albums tend to be handled by Shinoda and Delson.

We also know that Brad, Chester and Rob can play a piano. Chester and Phoenix play guitar.
I'm not sure what else is Joe capable of besides scratching, beats and programming... and there is nothing like that on The Hunting Party.

There is. If "Until It's Gone" was an earlier Linkin Park song, I'd be certain Joe did the interlude at the end.

I totally forgot about "Until It's Gone". Maybe because I pretend that it doesn't exist... :D except UIG and FM, there aren't many electronics...

Atmospherics, which was largely what he did on "Midnight", at least.

The problem is- A lot of the stuff that Joe does, is also done by Mike (Electronics - synths - samples etc).

But I suppose you could say the same for any member excluding Rob, and even then quite a few of the songs have drum programming in them. Can't really be sure if its Mike or Chester writing lyrics, and Mike or Brad playing guitar.

That was exactly what I was thinking. In the booklet it says he does art direction, i'm not sure how big of a deal that is or not maybe it's a huge deal.
