I'm not saying I don't like anything they've done since ATS. They've made plenty of good songs since then, but album wise nothing really stands out for me. And no, THP was not a bad album at all. I actually thought it was a step in the right direction, but OML is kind of a big step back imo.
Agree. It's been hit or miss after ATS I feel. Living Things was a miss, THP was back to a more ambitious and creative project, and OML is a bit of another step back.
Could you please share the album since you've obviously heard it? /sarcasm The remaining 6 (4, depending on how you see it) could still be fantastic.
Even if the remaining four songs are phenomenal, it still won't make it a fantastic album imo. Lost In the Echo is my favorite LP song, Living Things is my least favorite album. Go figure.
Derek Can you clarify if the stranger themes esque intro in the good goodbye video is part of Nobody Can Save Me ?
Your description of Sharp Edges has me really eager to hear it. It sounds like it's gonna be a really good song. I sorta fell off the hype train a couple of weeks ago just because I got too busy but I'm definitely back on now and at full speed.
Derek, do you have any predictions for what impact OML will have on the fanbase in the (near) future? I can't help but shake the feeling that a good chunk of long-time fans may be lost, but maybe a new listening group/demographic will emerge. I actually think OML may prove to be more polarizing than ATS, and that's saying something. What I ultimately hope is that LP can come to terms with just how diverse their fanbase is, and one day write an album that reflects more diversity in genres.
I really hope they start releasing behind the scene videos this week upcoming to the album. That would make this release perfect. So hyped after reading this review!
Most successful post in AltWire's nearly four year history. The traffic on this one review alone has been obscene. I am very happy. It'll do to the fanbase what ATS did. It'll scare off the nu-metal diehards (hopefully for good, cause I'm getting tired of their whining) but it's going to potentially be a crossover album in which hopefully via word of mouth the record will introduce the band to a whole new group of fans.
