@Derek , Chester said in an interview that there isn't screaming but he said that there are times when he's "going at it", can you give any insight on that? What is the 'heaviest' track on the album? Nice review btw, it seems genuine and not kiss-assy.
There's quite a few 'go at it' moments where he sings slightly more aggressive than he had the rest of the song (in the vein of the Battle Symphony bridge). There's no screaming, but there is some parts where Chester (or even Mike) kinda push a little harder, and its great. Heaviest? Sorry For Now's drums hit HARD, so that song probably has the most thump to it, but there's no 'hard rock' on this record.
SFN has loud drums? Wow. Didn't get the vibe from the six seconds we've heard haha. That's awesome. Comparing SE to BIO is also pretty interesting. Looking forward to that one.
To be clear, I meant in terms of the clapping and dancey feel etc. The songs are very different. Bleed It Out sounds like it's meant to be played in a bar, Sharp Edges is more lighthearted and fun.
I really enjoy Good Goodbye but the rest of the singles fall a bit flat for me. I absolutely love the live version of Talking to Myself so i'm still excited to hear the studio version. My hype levels are really off the charts for Sorry for Now though. Ever since I heard that snapchat clip I knew that's exactly what I wanted to hear from LP. Those dreamy synths and pounding drums are going to sound so good coming out of my speakers. If I can dig the rest of the unreleased songs i'll be content. Wish I could like the other released songs but I suppose that's better than nothing.
Great Review Derek! making me even more excited for the album although I will admit i'll probably cry the very first time I listen to the title track being as me as well as my family recently lost my grandfather. Other than the title track I'm looking forward to this album alot. "Invisible" happens to be my favorite at the moment, So glad that i Preordered the album
I sample "Mortal Kombat" soundbytes throughout my stuff and, sometimes, it's a real challenge to make them work
If there is, I couldn't hear them clearly enough to say 'yes this is a female voice' but it wouldn't surprise me given the sound of the two tracks those are rumored to be on.
While we may never know how much effort goes into the lyrics(esp since LP doesn't do full length album-making documentaries anymore), I have to incline with wretched king that the lyrics for the singles released so far could be better or mediocre at best. Particularly 'Heavy', although there's other main reasons for my dislike for that single. 'Invisible' is the only song that has good lyrics so far imo.
Sounds likes it's pop with eclectic elements. While this isn't the album I crave from them, after hearing Invisible, I'm excited for the rest after these reviews
Seriously, In Between is a great song. And Invisible sounds like its successor. Anyways, thanks Derek for the great review. Pumped as fuck for this album.
6 out of 10 of the songs are out. The main reason I say this isn't because of how good or bad I think OML will be (OML will be good imo) but more so how quality all their other albums are. They have released 6 albums and 5 of them are really high quality in my opinion. Lyrics don't have to be technical to be good.
