If this is against the rules, biggest apologies to the mods, but I think it's okay... Once apon a time I used Kazaa, but due to spyware I had to take it off my computer. Like a dumbass, I didn't get Kazaa Lite before it was shut down. So now I ask you, fellow LPAers: What P2P do you use, and what are the pros and cons? Much thanks.
I'm not sure if it's ok or not, I mean you are listing ways you illegally download songs, etc. but it will closed if it's not ok. I don't use anything anymore. At first I used WinMX, it was OK i guess, it had a lot of users. But then we got a virus, so I changed to KaZaA. It was awesome, except after a few months we found 12 viruses from it. So then I upgraded to KaZaA Lite. It was awesome and we didn't get any viruses. But then we got a new computer, and the one with KaZaA Lite is in my room, and I don't have the net in my room, and my mom doesn't want me wasting room on the new computer on Kazaa. So life sucks now, but I still search for MP3's from time to time, don't usually find much... oh well, at least I'm not getting sued.
Kazaa Lite K++ Haven't had a single problem, except the problem that every P2P program has, and that's songs with the bleeps in them/fake songs. I highly suggest Kazaa Lite K++. It's better than Kazaa & Kazaa Lite. It's made to protect you from viruses & all that junk, thus the K++.

Really? It completely ####ed my computer over with Spyware. Sigh.
yeah, ive had no problems with spyware, maybe i have some sort of program that stops spyware
yeah, ive had no problems with spyware, maybe i have some sort of program that stops spyware
Yeah I got the spyware screw-over. It actually overloaded my comp and I kept getting error messages that said "Cannot open program, not sufficient ram". We had to wipe the slate clean.... Lost all 200+ songs that I made...

I'm really glad you started this topic because I was afraid to. Mods can be scary. :chemist: But yeah, I started off with WinMX, moved to Kazaa, then to Kazaa Lite, and finally Kazaa Lite K++ but I had problems with all of them. Plus, fake files aren't fun. I don't have anything at the moment but every once in a while, I'll reinstall Kazaa to download a song and when I'm finished I'll uninstall it. I've always wanted to try mIRC, heard it was reliable, but it seems so confusing to me.
Why be scared of mods? If they think a topic is inappropriate, they close it, and if it's too inappropriate, you might get a warning. No big deal, you just try not to do it again and really piss them off or something. ... :chemist: I'm thinking about doing what you said, and install kazaa, dl a song, and uninstall.
Yeah, well... Let's just say you won't see me starting a lot of topics on this forum  Actually, I'm trying LiveWire at the moment. So far, things appear to be going well. I haven't found any "surprises" on my hard-drive yet and I haven't gotten any fake files (but then again I've only downloaded 5 songs so far).
I use eMule, eDonkey, Shareaza, DC++, WinMX, and mIRC. Woo...completely legal. As for the viruses on p2p, you're bound to come in contact with a virus sometime, I suggest you watch what you're downloading and make sure it's a highly distributed file. EDIT: To contradict myself yet again, downloading from multiple sources unmasks your ISP even if on a firewall and will open plenty of ports.
How good is the selection on whatever P2P you use? If I were to look for, say, live Black Flag tracks, would I actually get any results?
