After teasing a new song and releasing mood boards for the past few weeks, Mike Shinoda has now revealed on his website that the new song is called "Already Over" and will be released on October 6th. Mike has also already posted the first verse of the song, and the pre-chorus on Twitter: The song is available to pre-save on Spotify and Apple Music. Are you excited for new Mike Shinoda music? I think it would be cool for Shinoda to do some kind of live performance for a song that sounds like this
Is out in GMT+11 time zones: (AUS youtube embed) I'm still not sure what to think yet other than I don't hate it.
It's a daring move from Mike to release a full-on rock song. This is definitely a more LP-sounding track than everything Mike has released after 2017... and this might generate more comparison between him and Chester "in the mainstream". The song is fun and catchy, probably has been over-teased, unless it's part of a bigger scheme (which I hope for). Also, it's pretty damn cool Mike wrote and performed every single instrument/sound on this (including drums!).
The song is decent. I think my main sticking point is the polish on the song. It's too polished to sound like, say, a DIY rock band. But it's not polished enough to sound like a, well, Mike Shinoda track. So it's in a weird middle ground. That aside, I like the melody of the song and the lyrics.
Things I like: The melody The catchiness Mikes singing The instrumental That it's way more rock-y than most of the stuff Mike has been involved in since after The Hunting Party Things I don't like: It doesn't have a real bridge It's a bit short, could have fixed that with a proper bridge...
Definitely one of Mike's heaviest solo tracks, if not the most heavy one he's done. I think the song is okay. I do however really like the harmonizing in the bridge-ey part Maybe it will grow on me but ultimately I feel almost the same as when In My Head released. a bit of neat things goin on in it but is just an okay song overall.
