okay, im a fairly easy critic / fan to please. give me a decent story, some climax, some resolution, cliffhanging, or surprises in the end and im a pretty happy camper. Music also is like a major plus if i notice myself bobbing my head or feeling extra emotion because of the music. now, on to the topic at hand. Alexander, the one w/ angelina jolie and stuff, was one of the dumbest "war of greek / rome era" type movies i've ever seen. Now, the action was there, I must admit, and the storyline (if that's what you call it) wasn't too bad in terms of trying to be historical, but when you go into a movie with a mindest of having another "blockbuster" along the lines of Gladiator, Troy, and movies like that, and instead you get more of a documentary, it is severely disappointing. Now, call me overly critical, but this was one of the only movies i stopped (probably only 20 minutes before the ending even) and my girlfriend and i both looked at eachother and said i can't handle this anymore. anyone else agree or severly dsisagree? -boojitsu
I thought that the movie was amazing. It was very accurate (to historical records) and the acting was great. Then again, I guess that I'm a fan of boring movies.
im not necessarily saying from a historical accuracy point of view that it's bad, cause i agree that it probably was (dont ask me, i know jack about history) accurate, but at the same time, the music was lacking (and when it was there, it was at random points that it didn't even need music) and the film moved like a documentary (except not even well enough explained to be a documentary) and lacked a lot in terms of giving you a reason as to WHY you are supposed to feel anything at any point. i mean i thought i was supposed to hate the dad, but then they tried to make me like him sorta... and then go back to hating, then hating hate the mom, but wait no the mom is kewl... they kinda failed to prove that they were both "bad" except that you just have to figure that out yourself. i don't know, just a lot of small stuff piled up and made it an unenjoyable experience for myself. -boojitsu
I just thought that the script left much to be desired, as did the directing, action and sets. I thought it was at least worth a viewing, though.
my dumb friend dragged me to that movie because he thought it was gonna be like Troy.....and when the movie was FINALLY over.... he turned in my direction and said "sorry"
I've heard a lot of different comments about the movie. Mostly negative comments. I still need to see it for myself in order to be the judge of that. I also seem to like boring movies as well, but I know what's good and what's bad.
That's my philosophy. What's good in my book might not be good in someone else's book. Formulate your own opinions and don't listen to what someone else has to say. Unless you agree with them.
They problem with this movie is that its a 3 hour movie and they only have 2 fight scenes that lasts 10-15 minutes each. Will was right about being accurate, but that couldn't save it for me. Anthony Hopkins was sooo boring with his fucking monolouges.
I hated the movie, left in the middle of it, my brother was about to kill me for draggaing him along...
