My top 10 albums of the year: 10. Starset - Divisions Genre: Alternative Rock / Electronic Rock Favorite songs: Perfect Machine, Where the Skies End, Telekinetic, Diving Bell and Manifest Favorite moment of the album: the chorus chord progression of "Perfect Machine" and the intro/post-chorus riff of "Where the Skies End". Main appeal of the album: The over the top cinematic vibe you get from Starset in general. 9. Mahalia - Love and Compromise Genre: R&B / Pop Favorite songs: Karma, Do Not Disturb, I Wish I Missed My Ex, Consistency, Hide Out and What You Did. Favorite moment of the album: Mahalia's flow in the verses of "Hide Out" + the outro of "Karma". Main appeal of the album: The charismatic personality of Mahalia mixed with the funky and oldschool vibe of the production. 8. Slayyyter - Slayyyter Genre: Electropop / Bubblegum Pop Favorite songs: Alone, Candy, Celebrity, Devil, Mine and Motorcycle. Favorite moment of the album: The glitchy chorus of "Alone". Main appeal of the album: This is definitely not the style of music I listen to everyday, but Slayyyter has the incredible talent to let every single note she sings to be catchy af. 7. Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Genre: Pop Favorite songs: Julien (best pop song of 2019), Now That I Found You, Right Words Wrong Time, Too Much, Automatically In Love, Everything He Needs: Happy Not Knowing and Feels Right. Favorite moment of the album: The pre-chorus and last chorus of "Julien". Main appeal of the album: If you're looking for good ass pop then there no one better than CRJ, sugary sweet songs with catchy melodies for whole days. 6. Kim Petras - Turn Off the Light Genre: Electropop Favorite songs: Close Your Eyes, Tell Me It's a Nightmare, Wrong Turn, There Will Be Blood, In the Next Life, Turn off the Light and Massacre. Favorite moment of the album: The chorus of "Close Your Eyes". Main appeal of the album: Kim's voice and the amazing production. 5. Ariana Grande - thank u, next Genre: Pop Favorite songs: NASA, fake smile, in my head, bloodline, bad idea, make up, needy and break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored. Favorite moment of the album: the outro of "bad idea". Main appeal of the album: I don't give 2 fucks about Ariana Grande's private life (which most of the album is about), I'm only for the catchy bops and how consistently great this album is. 4. Rosie Lowe - YU Genre: Alternative R&B Favorite songs: Birdsong, Little Bird, Pharoah, Mango, ITILY, The Way and Royalty. Favorite moment of the album: the entirety of "Birdsong" and the beat switch from "Little Bird". Main appeal of the album: One of my favorite discoveries of the year, I was mostly impressed by the funky production and the amazing songwriting. 3. Bring Me the Horizon - amo Genre: Alternative Rock / Pop Rock Favorite songs: Mantra, wonderful life, i don't know what to say, sugar honey ice & tea, why you gotta kick me when i'm down?, medicine, nihilist blues, in the dark and mother tongue. Favorite moment of the album: the last chorus of "wonderful life" and the solo of "i don't know what to say". Main appeal of the album: It's BMTH duh, but seriously metalcore or pop these duds know exactly how to write bangers! and this album has plenty of them. 2. Periphery - Periphery IV: Hail Stan Genre: Progressive Metal / Djent Favorite songs: Satellites, Garden in the Bones, Reptile, Blood Eagle, It's Only Smiles, Crush and Sentient Glow. Favorite moment of the album: There's too many but my favorites are the 2nd chorus riff of "Satellites" and the breakdown of "Reptile". Main appeal of the album: Does it Djent? fuck yeah! My favorite Periphery album and like all their albums their main appeal is the perfect balance of heavy/groovy/technically complex riffs and the catchy songwriting with most focus on huge choruses. 1. Leprous - Pitfalls Genre: Progressive Rock / Art Rock Favorite songs: The Sky is Red, Distant Bells, At the Bottom, I Lose Hope, Foreigner, By My Throne, Below... Basically the whole fucking album lol. Favorite moment of the album: It has too many but my most favorite is the last 4 minutes of "The Sky is Red", the epitome of epic! Main appeal of the album: Holy shit this band, I've so obsessed with them since I've discovered them. Everything about them is perfect (from the top-notch vocals, the yet extremely complex but addicting riffs and those incredible polyrhythmic drum grooves man!), the perfect band. And they also have the talent to nail every musical direction they like to choose (if you're aren't familiar with them they used to be a heavy Prog Metal band but have constantly gone "softer" by every release). Every single one of their album has an unique sound to it that make them stood out so much in an incredible discography. My top 10 songs of 2019: Leprous - The Sky is Red Bring Me the Horizon - Ludens Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien Rosie Lowe - Birdsong Periphery - Satellites Rosie Lowe - Little Bird PVRIS - Nightmare Periphery - Garden in the Bones Rosie Lowe - Pharoah Periphery - Reptile
