18. If you're old enough to join the military and die for this country, you're old enough to have a beer.
Beer and all that stuff, 16. Heavier drinks, like Vodka, Absinthe etc., 18. It's basically the rule here, and it works.
It should be 18. It's 18 in almost every other country in the world. Plus everyone under 21 drinks anyway. Disclaimer: I realize not everyone who's under 21 drinks. Shut up.
i agree....its 18 here in Australia. 16 for driving, sex and smoking. I never understood why the US was so strict?
I never understood why you can drive when you're 16 but you can't have a beer before you're 21 in the US.
I do think it would make a hell of a lot more sense if all these age restrictions were brought in line with each other, at least. On a personal level it wouldn't make much difference though.
It actually stops a lot of aussies from travelling to the US before they are 21. Most people travel when they leave school (18) and most will go to Europe/UK instead of the US due to the drinking age limit.
Trying to make sense out of the U.S. is something I wouldn't recommend for fear of your head exploding. I agree with Todd, though.
If I had it my way it'd be 16 because everyone who drinks alcohol tends to start around that age and sooner. However 18 is fine with me.
It's probably got to do with a preconceived notion of emotional immaturity. All the old lawmakers just see kids as idiots who'd hit the bottle with no remorse for their liver or the well-being of others, when half the time that's the farthest thing from the truth. None of my friends (except one) were like that at all. We drink to have fun, that's pretty much it. Plus it's not like you can play beer pong with fucking Coke.
