Eternal life. Thus Infinite. Thus always. Ergo, Forever. If given a choice for eternal life, would you take it? Why or why not? Do you think that you'd grow bored of experiencing things for an uncountable amount of times? Would the word "Love" become meaningless? Would it have to be a conditional choice, such as, IF you could end it at anytime you'd take the eternal choice. So, LPA, what are some advantages and disadvantages of eternal life. What are your personal opinions. Would you want to live forever? Go.
Living forever in this world would be lonely. Everything, everyone you loved won't bewith you after 100+ years and only you will be around.
But that is to say not everyone would have the choice for eternal life. In my question, I'm proposing that every individual be given a choice to live infinitely.
For me it really all banks on can you choose to die later on? If so, yes, I would take it. If not, I probably wouldn't. Although another factor to consider is would your body continue to deteriorate or would cease to age as well? If it continued to deteriorate then absolutely not. If not, then it goes back to my first point.
I'd take this deal in a second. Even if I didn't have a choice to die later. I don't think there's such thing as "one true love". There are thousands of people you can fall in love with. Love would definitely still have a meaning. There's really no downside to this. Not wanting to see the people you care about die isn't a reason. You can see all the people you care about die if you were mortal. Being immortal just assures that you will. And it's a selfish reason. If you don't want to see the people you care about die, that means you want to die before them. That would put the pain on them. Why would you want to do that to them?
I think that this is really a moot point. If you can live for eternity, then there would always be a point latter in time where you'd feel better than you had previously. Infinity is infinity is infinity. I mean, you'd love again without a doubt, more than you had loved before, because there's always time for love to grow. And again, if the love of your live is also immortal, than it's twice as moot. Think about it. You love someone, they die. 10 billion years later, you love someone even more than the last time. Same goes with everything, new languages, new planets to live on, new religions to take part in, new technology, new everything, because if it is infinite there is always a point in which the last point will be topped. And it will go on like that forever. So say, 15 billion years of pain is nothing at all if you're going to live forever.
Would i be able to become a vampire instead of just immortal. If im gonna live forever i want some perks with it. I mean when i go to get a job how would i explain i was born in 1992 but it being the year 2235? Gotta think about these things.....
But death is not an ending, it's only the start of many things to come. You can't experience the things death would offer you, if you were immortal.
Yeah, I love it when people say death isn't the end. Maybe if you believe in some magical fantasy land that exists in the sky (or wherever), streets paved in gold, etc. That's a reasoning that people make because they can't handle the fact that, perhaps, this is all there is. You work with the time you have, and when it's up, that's it. I'd really like to know what people think death has to offer in the "afterlife". I'd love to drink a white russian with Jimi Hendrix or something, but let's face it, I don't think he's up in the sky playing Voodoo Child for Heath Ledger and God. The word "love" has no meaning anyway without the actual emotion of love. So, unless you're just a cold hearted motherfucker, it will always have a definitive value to it.
This exactly. Life is all there is in this world and I want as much of it as I can possibly get. Can you imagine all of the knowledge you could amass with an indefinite life span? Maybe I'm just a bit of a nerd but I love being able to understand the "why's" and "how's" in life. It's amazing to think about the possibilities that eternal life could present.
But what if everyone was immortal? No one would die. This is a tough hypothetical question. Of course I would choose the option to not die. But the world would be dysfunctional if everyone knew they could live forever...so idk.
But what's worse? Boredom or death? Though if you believe in an afterlife I suppose that changes things.
In this case I'm inclined to say there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference. I would possibly take an extended life with slowed aging or something but that's as far as I'd go. I just don't see why I'd want to live forever, it's as simple as that. And no, I don't think I do.
