I grew up in Ohio, so I've had no accent for my entire life. However, on some words, I've noticed that I develop a Bostonian or Southern accent, depending on what I'm saying, and how fast I'm saying it. The point of this thread is to say whether or not you have an accent, and if you do, what kind of accent you have. Just as a reference point, Ohioans generally have no accent, as well as other citizens of the Mideast. If you want, you can post a video of yourself talking. That's up to you though. I probably will, because I want everyone to hear how absurd my voice is, but no one HAS to post a video. Anyway, yeah, post away.
On some words I'll slip out a "Fancy" accent Idk I kind of Curl my words..Its hard to explain. Usually Happens when Im saying Facts Or somethin.
I know exactly what you mean when you say Ohioans don't have an accent. It's true for those of us actually speaking with our Ohio accents, but to everyone else who has a different accent, we do indeed have accents. It's all just a matter of opinion, really. But I've got a typical Midwestern accent, the same as you'd find in any town in Greater Cleveland. Being I live about 45 miles east of Cleveland, I'm pretty much right on the border between normal Ohio accents and weird Pennsylvania accents where they make up words like "yins." I've always said I want a Scottish or Irish accent. I plan to spend a summer in Scotland or Ireland some time when I'm older, and I hope the accent sticks with me for more than a few weeks. I just think it would be fantastic. I'd even like a Welsh accent, being Wales my home country and all.
I guess you'd call mine recieved pronunciation with estuary and brummie inflections on certain words. About 50/25/25 as a ratio. Of course, if one of the american members heard me they'd probably be like "OMG UR ACCENT IZ S0O0O0O0O0O BRITISH!!111"
That's pretty much how Americans are. I know half my friends are no good at deciphering accents, so they'll group them as either British, Australian, Scottish, Irish, German, French, Russian or Spanish. If they hear any other accent, they'll just group it with one of those accents, even if it barely sounds like the accent they're trying to liken it to.
My friends say they can't detect any other sort of accent in my voice, so although it's not purely an Australian (*cough* bogan) accent ... I guess it's an Australian accent at least.
i've got an accent. most people would say its full on 'Geordie' but theres a huge difference if you as me. its more like a 'Norht Eastern Seaside Accent'
i have a pretty bad singaporean accent now but it seems to go away when i talk to my mates back in the UK
[nasal]Maaaaate![/nasal] I'm pretty Aussie I guess, I say things like have a good one and how are ya mate? Though if I'm around my South African relatives I instantly pick up an Afrikaaner accent.
I'm a scouser through and through laaaaa. Any Brits will know what us scousers sound like, although my accent is more posh than regular scouse apparently. For those outside of the UK, scousers are people who live in Liverpool, and we have a thick accent with lots of "la's" etc. Dedicated and Luke/Hellflame can back me up on this, though Luke is a cockney...
How the fuck am I a cockney? It's impossible for an asian person to be cockney dude. You scousers disgust me.
It's not offensive or anything, I just find it funny when people refer to there being A british accent when really there are god knows how many. It's usually like that with a lot of countries though. Still, if you got me, JJ, Luke and the scousers together we'd probably all sound completely different and that's just England.
Yeah I've got a pretty big accent Little from The Hague, Rotterdam and a small region around here thats called Westlands. I love it
Australian-English accent. It was more Australian when I first came to England in 03, but over the years I've picked up a slight English accent too.
The weird thing for me is that I adapt to accents super quickly. Whenever I go on holiday to somewhere like Ireland or America I start picking up the accents within a matter of days. I dunno how to explain it and I genuinly can't help it.
