i dont know EXACTLY but my friend has something similar, where he has to hook it up to his computer by a certain cable and use some program to record what the camera is playing so it can be saved onto a video file on the computer..again maybe someone with more specific knowledge will reply

yeah we have a bunch of those kinds of tapes from a camcorder, but I'm not sure how to take video from the tape to the computer. the thing Roxas mentioned about recording what the video camera is displaying sounds most logical. you couldn't do it by just connecting the camera to the computer via firewire, could you? no, that wouldn't transfer/read the video...

he told me that he uses the program imagemixer 1.50 sony.

for his camera to record what the camera is playing

and he used a standard USB 2.0 cable to connect , but i guess it really depends on your camera if it has a USB port and such

did you try VirtualDub? you connect the DV, go to capture mode, set a file for it to save it to, and start playing the video on the DV, and it'll show up on screen (as long as you've selected your input source). while its playing, you click "start capture".
