There is an excerpt from a story that I have started writing. It's the very first paragraph of the story and I'd thought it'd also make for a nice free verse poem A Little Darkness The sky is Grey and the clouds are thick and angry. They're sprinkling down rain onto black pavement. The rain is trying to break out into a downpour and on Arc Road right behind the KUIKEY MART there's an ally. You can see as each drop of rain hits the gravel, beating it with a liquid tenderness. You can also see each droplet bounce back off of the tiny rocks; as if rejecting their place in the world yet before it's all done, all the gravel is soaked along with the spaces in between. The alley becomes a miniature creak, soaked up with everything it never asked for. Is that so different than love? Darkness? A place in your heart that if anyone ever found you'd be broken. Should denial come and you run from the very thing you long for, a happiness that can only be bought with a sacrifice. A pain unlike any you've ever felt before. What then? When the light you knew is brighter than the sun and you've become blinded by the need for a little darkness. What then?
