Parts of the album have been uploaded onto Steve Aoki's YouTube and SoundCloud account and can be listened to below. The album includes seven remixes including Rick Rubin's Reboot which was featured on Linkin Park's RECHARGED album, the Vicetone Remix which was previously released on SoundCloud, and Brian Yates' Remix which recently won the Surface Remix Contest. Remixes come from a variety of artists including Rick Rubin, Vicetone, Angger Dimas, Twoloud, Coone, and Brian Yates. This is... Interesting? Unexpected? I don't think I plan on buying a CD that contains the same song 7 times, but, I don't know. How the video is set up is pretty cool, though
1. Neither the Soundcloud upload nor the Youtube clip are actually the full EP. The Soundcloud one is just previews of all of the songs, while the Youtube clip contains 5 out of 7 songs in full and previews of the Angger Dimas and Coone remixes. 2. Most random nerdy thing ever, but the image in the top right of the cover art is based off a photo of Brad's pedal rack from the Minutes to Midnight touring cycle: http://pedalmaniacs.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/brad-gears.jpg
I think remix means a different thing to people, especially someone who mainly listens to stuff like Steve Aoki. I mean, you think remix and imagine the same song, so you don't want to hear a bunch of the same thing over and over. But to someone who really enjoys EDM and the like, they appreciate the sound and such, you know? I'm not trying to say anything, just that I know some people will think it's cool to hear all of these, and some people will just pass them off as remixes and not care. At least this is being released more by Steve than LP, since his audience would care far more.
I think it's silly to hate on all remixes in general since they can represent any music genre. It's almost like saying "I'm getting so sick of the word music". Although I do understand you a little as all the major labels always prefer sounding-exactly-the-same dubstep/EDM crap.
Agreed. I don't like to add another remix album to my LP collection. Reanimation was somethings really cool and Recharged was a new experience but an album with remixes of 1 song??!! I really have no idea about what LP is doing!
Okay, it's unfair to say it to people like you who actually do something interesting with remixes, but I'm in general sick of LP putting out shitty EDM remixes. The Living Things Remix Subscribtion, then Recharged, now this... It's annoying. Reanimation was awesome, though.
Well I can't wait for the remix of these remixes being remixed. By the time this EP is released I'm actually more curious for how many times a song can be re-invented.. you know, before the universe explodes.
This thing is not a "remix album". It is not analogous to "Recharged" or "Reanimation". It's simply an extended single release. Nothing to get excited about in any way. I understand that you people avoid dance music like the fucking plague but this kind of release is completely ordinary in the realm of electronica and dance music and has been for a long, long time. Linkin Park have put out remix EPs before, to promote "The Catalyst" in 2010 and, later, "Burn It Down" in 2012.
2013 was not my favorite year for this band, to put things mildly. Not that anyone cares about what I thought, but I dunno I'm trying to post my reaction to Linkin Park news and this is all I can muster.
The Catalyst remix contest and a lot of those were released officially, there was a remix contest for Burn It Down plus tons of them on the Monthly Download, and now this. How not?
