I'll admit here that I misread what you said as "your opinion is dead wrong" rather than "I think you're (get your grammar right ffs :p) opinion is dead wrong", which is a bit of a difference. Though, I still think if you're going to throw around the word "opinion", you could probably realise that opinions are subjective sometime soonish.

Fair enough, next time I disagree with someone I'll make sure to spell it out and say something like "my own personal, subjective viewpoint unfortunately differs from yours", so the semantics are 100% clear for everyone.

    Fixed the mistake in grammar.

And yeah Dean, I think so too.

Can't really remember why I was in this thread, and I think attacking my attack on your attack is getting all too serious, and my weak cop out rebuttal was obviously not worth responding to and I don't care for arguments at all. So I'm off, so you guys can argue your point by writing more irrelevant bullshit - in my own personal, subjective viewpoint unfortunately differs from yours.

Jordan the only person in this thread attacking anyone is you. I'm in half a mind to give you an infraction for that last post but in all honesty it's not even worth it because all this tension has been created out of literally nothing.

It's quite obvious that a few people have taken differences in opinions as personal attacks which has just soured this thread.

I just want say I am fine with opinions. I found Casey was dipping into elitism by saying how he felt sorry for people who disagreed with him and such, and this annoyed me a little. I felt he was going past "this is my opinion" and "this is my opinion and I pity you if you can't see why it is superior".

I didn't mean to attack him though, this was just the source of my reason to disagree.

hmm, are we able to deliver qualified statemens just yeat, as the new Decade is only 10 Days old? I don`t think so, maybe by the end of the year, when anyone had some to time to adjust ahd stuff. to say something else, I have to say, I do care about Good Artwork and maybe a Booklet that goes together with the CD, but I also still buy Vynils, the last one was Beady Eye`s Single Bring the Light. I gotta admit im a bit spoiled concerning Vynils because of my parents, who had all of the Beatles Releases and from other Bands such as Led Zep, Stones, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin etc. Today, all these records are standing in my Apartement in a Special Shelf, and every once in a while I`ll add a new one to the Collection. But, I think that the Form of Distributing Records as it is done today is dead. Music is Digital today. That`s a fact. So we have to get along with it or sit in our rooms, whiny and gritty moaning about the "old times".

    This.

Great post. I pretty much agree with everything you mentioned here as most of the artists/songs you mentioned were huge over here too. One thing I wanted to add is that in the UK, music from reality TV shows such as "X Factor" are extremely popular. People from reality singing competitions (artists like JLS, Cheryl Cole, Alexandra Burke) pretty much own the mainstream charts right now. Another huge trend has been the rise of British urban acts such as Dizzee Rascal, Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder, N-Dubz and Tinie Tempah.

Artist of the decade, in my opinion, goes to Eminem.

Some people here are really full of themselves. Yeesh.

What gives you the right to decide what passes as music or not? Bullshit.

I thought grown human beings just knew that while arguing about opinions, we're not arguing against that person or their character. We are simply having a discussion. Stop getting so worked up if people disagree with your opinion. They don't hate you or disrespect you. It gets annoying when you have to include "imo", or "no offense, but". Those things should be a given without every thread going into a downward spiral every time people disagree with each other. It'd be nice to have civil and intelligent arguments without it always derailing the thread.

Casey is right, I think. There's nothing like flicking through blink-182's self-titled albums liner notes, and seeing that those pop-punk songs really do mean something. Or that Midnight Oil album with the live shots of their singer with blood vessels about to burst in his head from the intensity of the performance. Or seeing a photo of when Pearl Jam recorded Alive. It's all part of the story of the song, and it's sad that it might disappear entirely.

Ask this again in 5 years. See who anybody still listens to.

It won't be Gaga, or Hey, Soul Sister. It won't be Avenged Sevenfold or even Green Day.

It will, in my opinion be the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, Muse, Eminem. Because they're different. And that's what makes an artist last, not sounding like the rest, and being consistent. People want to call Gaga the act of the decade? She's had one album that anyone gave a shit about. Train? They had Drops of Jupiter and Hey, Soul Sister. Does anyone think that's gonna make their iPod in 10 years time?

(I actually like both the artists I just said won't be significant in a few years, so don't call me biased)

Off topic but; you guys know Red Hot Chili Peppers peaked around the mid 90's and the albums they dropped this past decade are generally considered steps down right?

I also think Green Day would hardly be considered not relevant a decade from now. Their 14+ years of superfame before American Idiot not withstanding, that album was a monster hit that earned them a brand new horde of imitators.

If Linkin Park is relevant, Green Day sure as hell is relevant.

Californication came out in 1999. By The Way and Stadium Arcadium are some of their best stuff too I think. Regardless if it's a downgrade from their early 90's stuff, it's still quality material.

What point are you trying to make? A band that was better in one decade can't be considered one of the best of the next decade because they're considered to be past their prime?

    Yes.

Nah I'm just fucking with you. But when they're bigger in the previous decade than the applicable one then they really aren't 'definitive' of that decade, barring a 180 turnaround like Green Days make-up wearing Buck Fushing.

Thank you. You managed to sum up what I said in various posts in a few sentences, and you seemingly get what I was trying to say. It's all apart of a greater idea, a bigger picture. But some people won't agree with that, or even understand what we're trying to say. Because "music changes", and we're supposed to go along with it.

Now you're just pushing the issue. People are allowed to disagree, y'know, and it'd be nice if you'd stop trying to equate that with not getting your point.
