Surely it's happened once before to all of you, you have a favorite CD that you've played to death, only to find one day that its scratched so terribly that it no longer plays. Case in point, my copy of Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory", an LPA forum favorite. Ouch, what did I do to you? Ack, if that wasn't a sore sight. One of my favorite albums in my collection, and it's scratched up more than a dumb blonde in a slasher flick. The CD at this stage was basically unplayable, every track..if not at least 80% of the CD skipped and made it unenjoyable. The prospect of spending 14.00 to rebuy this album was not something I was looking forward to, so then I decided to go off of a remedy thats been spread around the net for quite some time. I would need a non abrasive cloth, and some Brasso. Yes, Brasso as in the popular brass metal polisher. We can rebuild him, we can make him stronger... The remedy stated that if I took two drops and rubbed the surface of the CD in the direction of the scratch for 20 mins that it would begin to buff out the scratches. Well since I had scratches going in basically every direction, I decided to rub in circular motions across the surface of the CD. It took a while and a few drops of brasso (this stuff was messy, so it ran over the cd before I began to buff it with the cloth), but after twenty minutes, I came up with the following result: As you can tell, there is a noticable difference in the way the CD looks. Certain deep scratches that were there before, have been buffed out..while only a few scratches remain. Now for the real test.. Well Jimmy, how does it play? Inserting the CD in, Papercut played without a hitch and it seemed to be a winner. I noticed no obvious change in sound quality and it seemed to be fixed and in good shape. However, not all tracks were fixed as the scorecard shows: Papercut - No Skips One Step Closer - No Skips With You - No Skips POA - No Skips Crawling - No Skips Runaway - No Skips By Myself - No Skips In The End - No Skips APFMH - Skips Forgotten - Skips Cure - No Skips Pushing Me Away - No Skips As you can see, after the first attempt at polishing the disk it fixed errors on all the tracks but two. However, with all this information in hand I believe it is safe to say the experiment was a success. I took a CD that couldn't play it all and repaired it except for two tracks. Oh well, nothing another round of brasso cant fix! -Derek
Yes it does. Miracle isn't it? Apparently Brasso fills in the cracks and dries like a plastic. People have been using it to polish plastic since it came out decades ago. And better yet..it's only 4.00! You just gotta make sure the cloth you use isnt abrasive. Maybe a microfiber cloth. And btw, Avenger just donated so scratch what I said. Avenger in the hizzouse!
As is mine. I'm going to try this on Reanimation next, believe it or not it's even more scratched then HT. I really abuse my LP CDs.

No your not cause my editing hand is quicker than your posting hand. [/b][/quote] haha, yeah....I was quoting it, and saw it that way, then it dissapeared and it didn't say you edited, so I was like what?? But it's good to know that I'm not crazy.
Hey... I just got the DVD of Seed of Chucky from my mate but it's scratched up worse than your Hybrid Theory cd....reckon it'll still work? PS. It's been tossed into his garden from his window by his little brother as well.
hehehe this was fun to read... great job i dont play from my originals.. i make copies.. actually i put meteora and HT on the same cd coz.. hehe all my cds after reanimation have only been heard once and that was on the day i bought them.. just because i treat my cds like shit and its less painfull when a copied cd doesnt work
