Who ever said that an actor can’t start a band that’s decent? 30 Seconds To Mars is more than decent, however; they’re simply amazing. Their music defines their sound and vice versa. The band is comprised of actor Jared Leto on vocals and lead guitar, his brother Shannon Leto on drums, Matt Wachter on bass, and their new guitarist Tomo Milicivitch. Jared has been in such movies as Fight Club and Panic Room. Even though he is now committed to music he has not put acting aside for good.

Their sound is best defined by their name as I have already said. It is basically industrial-metal, in a sense, and some of their fans have even given it its own genre, space metal. The themes of the songs are somewhat similar, each dealing with the human struggle. None of the songs are very easy to relate to, which is why it’s hard to find very many fans. They aren’t very popular as of yet, but before they even had their album fully recorded, in the Spring of 2002, Wes Scantlin of Puddle Of Mudd invited Jared and the boys to open for his band on their tour. Then, after their album was released in August and their single ’’Capricorn (A Brand New Name)’’ had hit the airwaves, they went on tour with the ever-popular Incubus, and they gained many, many more loyal fans, known as the Echelon.

Their entire album is amazing. The starts off with ’’Capricorn (A Brand New Name)’’ lifting you into another dimension. You’ll have to hear it for yourself. Some songs I’d recommend listening to are ’’Capricorn (A Brand New Name)’’, their new single ’’Edge Of The Earth,’’ ’’Fallen,’’ and ’’Oblivion,’’ the first four songs from their album. Then, in the latter half of the album, ’’93 Million Miles,’’ ’’End Of The Beginning,’’ and ’’Year Zero.’’

Fans of Orgy or Deadsy should really enjoy their sound as they’re very similar. Check them out, you won’t regret it.

I first heard "Capricorn" and fell in love with it, but didn't think of downloading their album. About a month later Will lsent me their full album, and I've loved it ever since. I got it for my birthday a few weeks later and it's frequented my cd player since, but playtime has been scarce since "Meteora's" release a month ago.

Which reminds me.....*pops 30STM cd into PS2 and blasts*.

I highly recommend their self titled debut, i rate it a 9.5/10.

30 Seconds to Mars is definely one of my favorite bands, their debut album has to be one of my top ten of all time. I would have to say "Echelon" is my favorite song by them.
