On January 27, 2004, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 76th Annual Academy Awards. Nominees for the Oscars
Best Supporting Actor Ken Wantanabe - The Last Samurai That nomination was VERY well deserved. He was incredible. I'm a little ticked Tom Cruise didn't get a nomination for Best Actor, though. His performance in The Last Samurai was compelling and moving. One of the best I've ever seen. Whoo! 10 nominations for LOTR:ROTK! They should clean up.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King is nominated for a lot of categories. Best Picture Achievement In Directing Best Adapted Screenplay Achievement In Art Direction Achievement In Costume Design Best Film Editing Achievement In Makeup Best Original Score Original Song Achievement In Sound Best Visual Effects That's eleven categories that the movie is nominated for, and eleven categories that the movie will win.
I think ROTK has a shot this year at Best Picture, but the movie that has the best chance of going up against it is Mystic River which looked brilliant
Unfortunately I dont think RoTK will win bets picture because A: Tha Academy hates fantasy movies and B: They also hate trilogies and sequels.
Amen! I am SO happy Johnny Depp got nominated, FINALLY. It took forever for the Academy to recognize him, but it finally happened.
LOL I wish! I still have to see Finding Nemo! I really want to see it, I keep hearing how good it is and I want to be able to make my own judgement.
He did an awesome job! I think the whole "disney movie" thing may deter the academy from giving him the award, though. They're more into dramatic movies when it comes to Best Actor/Actress.

[/b][/quote] He better damn well win! But you're right Mark, he probably won't, just because he was in a Disney movie, which is ridiculous. I couldn't even tell that 'Pirates' was a Disney movie! And so what if it was, that doesn't make his acting achievement any less of a big deal. I swear, the academy makes me so mad sometimes...
'Pirates' was a great movie, Depp did an excellent job and I think he should win an Oscar...but he's up against the fav. Bill Murray for his role in 'Lost in Translation'. I haven't seen it but it is apparently a witty lighthearted comedy, a type of thing that the Academy loves...Not that I'm dissing Bill, hes an awesome actor.
