Firstly, this is not a cover. Just to make that clear.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVRXjDEVkz4

I think the way that Chester sings this is just too intense for the acoustic guitar only. My opinion of course, you may disagree. All good either way.

    Anyway.......

I threw it into Pro Tools, found the tempo (125 bpm) and layered some drums, bass and guitars over top around 1/14 through onwards. To me, it sound fucking sick now and I wish they could have done something similar. Maybe they will live, actually, I bet they will.

Either way, I hope you enjoy my take on The Messenger. Nothing structure wise has been changed, just stuff added.

I am a musician, producer, engineer etc.

Drums done through Reason. Love that program.
Guitars, all done by me using Ibanez through guitar rig 4.
Bass is a Variax Bass going through ampeg svx.
    Mastered using iZotope oZone.

    Gotta love trial software :D

I can put an mp3 somewhere but not sure how this forum would feel about that and how Warner would respond.

    Wow that is legendary.
I like The Messenger a lot but I agree Chester's voice is to intense for only an acoustic guitar. Keep up the good work :)

As good a job as you did (and for being something you did just screwing around, you did a damn good job)... it sounds even more like a Bon Jovi ballad this way.

Lol. It sounds more musical, that's for sure. Everyone has already blown their load after The Catalyst. The Messenger isn't meant to have a whole lot of instrumentation imo.

Having said that, I really like what you've done with the remix.

I like The Messenger a lot, but this is also fucking amazing. The way I see it, this'll probably be like Right Where It Belongs V2 by NIN. Both versions are amazing. This definitely holds up to the original.

Hahha, Bon Jovi, yes so true.

Linkin Park have always used the most pop sounding chord progressions. They just can't get away from it. I wish they could for like one album and then we would get something new in interesting.

    This song is just G Em C D G D C C. Repeat over and over.
Anyone could write a song like that. In fact there are probably over 2 million that already have that progression.

And, Bon Jovi and all the other rock ballad bands use it all the time. It is what makes it sound familiar and helps it to sell. Plus, its a great progression for getting that real emotional feel.

Really cool. His voice felt a bit underwhelmed towards the end, though.

there's more interesting bass progressions/dynamics going on in this remake than phoenix has ever done on any linkin park song.

    good job
