Yeh, its pretty neat song. Nothing amazingly epic like the Catalyst or No Roads left, but its pretty good. only heard it once though, so it needs a few plays to sink in. Good to hear brad on guitar again! Just as good as Blackbirds IMO.
I really like it, conventional and boring?, may be so but sometimes going too far erases the importance and message. It actually makes me think like it could be like the other side to "No Roads Left"'s story... like this is the girl speaking.. though it does sorta resemble a song about may be a hypocritical team leader?, I dunno JUST SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS not claiming what it is and what it isn't, just throwing stuff out there. Side note; those lyrics seem really off to me... o.o Not in song, what was posted.
Nothing major really wrong with them, I guess I'm just picky, and of coarse I don't count the "Uh-ohs" nor the line breaks as errors xD You say that you're proud of me Uh-oo-Uh-oo-oo-oo Then you take something out of me So-oo-Uh-oo-oo-oo predictable Why do I have to see this through? Why do I have to take this? Isn't there something I can do? To make myself finally say this; No, you've taken this too far Exposing who you are For all to see You're not the one that you pretend to be You start with apologies Uh-oo-Uh-oo-oo-oo Then take another shot at me So-oo-Uh-oo-oo-oo predictable Why do I have to see this through? Why do I have to take this? Isn't there something I can do? To make myself finally say this; No, you've taken this too far Exposing who you are For all to see You're not the one that you pretend-- There's, no, you've taken this too far Exposing who you are For all to see You're not the one that you pretend to be [Uh-oh's] No, you've taken this too far Exposing who you are For all to see You're not the one that you pretend-- There's, no, you've taken this too far Exposing who you are For all to see You're not the one that you pretend to be
I forget who said this, but I think it summed up the song perfectly. I enjoy the song, very mellow and chill but still has a nice groove. Nothing mind blowing though. Not that it should be.
Bland and unremarkable. I'm glad the band, from what I gather, went in a much different direction for A Thousand Suns.
It's like a breeze in summer. It's pleasant. It comes and goes. Nothing substantial but it's an improvement on Across The Line, which I think would probably be a hosepipe ban if I took that half-baked summer analogy further.
NOT this, haha. ATL is still a much better song IMO. It's in the top 20 all time best LP songs. Pretend to Be is still awesome though. I just wish they would have added a bridge with different lyrics to the song. THEN I would think about comparing it to Across the Line.
I think people only really like ATL because of the bridge. That is the only exciting part of the song. I'm with Troy. It didn't make the album because, well, it just wasn't THAT good.
I love the song from beginning to end. I love the verses, the choruses, and the bridge. It kicks ass instrumentally, the lyrics are great, it's catchy, and Chester's scream would have satisfied the haters. To this day It still boggles my mind why this wasn't on the album. I'm not saying it should've replaced anything. M2M could have been 48 minutes, no big deal. Of course that's my view of the song. Everyone has their opinions.
I don't agree with anything there except that it's catchy and that it probably would have gone down well with people who wanted more up-tempo songs and screaming and stuff. But yeah, opinions.
For me: New Divide > Across The Line > Blackbirds > Not Alone > Pretend To Be After several dozen listens to the song, there's really not much that stands out. I still really enjoy it, but as far as what they've released post-MTM, it's definitely my least favorite. New Divide was, and still is, epic in my opinion. I love everything about Across The Line, it's always on my workout playlist. Blackbirds and Not Alone are just downright beautiful. Pretend To Be has a really catchy guitar riff and some other nice raw instrumental pieces, but nothing spectacular. Again, not saying it's bad in any way, just prefer the others more.
I really like this song, it's something different. I think it would not fit on ATS, but it reminds me a little bit of some old Grey Daze Songs...
