Hi, I know I don't post in this forum a lot but I've been wondering about this for a while though. Sorry if there's already a topic about this already, but what do you guys think of Mike's voice live? On the albums, his voice is different on a lot of the songs. Probably because it's been altered or something like that. I was just a bit surprised when I first saw a live performance of them, which was the house of blues show they did. Don't get me wrong though, Mike still sounds amazing both ways. So do you guys like the way Mike sounds live? I know Chester sounds almost the same though, if not better. Oh yeah, I haven't logged on in such a long time that I didn't know about my signature being too long. Sorry, mods.
I think Mike sounds really good live, and same on their albums. I think he also has a pretty good singing voice too.
The House of Blues performance is so old... Mike's voice has evolved over time and so has his experiences. All bands pretty much sound bad when they first come out, but that's why you practice to become better . I think Mike's voice is fine... I don't think you can really alter rapping :wth:.
Heh, Mike's voice is a little different live. It's not bad, though; I've no problems with it. When I think about it, it might be the mikes, because I've talked to him in person before and he sounds normal.
Hmm....I've never actually seen them live, but based on live videos it does sound different...not bad, just different. And what Keaton said is right, most bands aren't so hot live at first...but they get better. Imagine LP live in 10 years....wow.
I think Mike sounds awesome live. His back-up singing on Numb (note: Kimmel) is incredible, as well as when he sings the second verse during P5hng Me A*wy (note: Lisbon) . Other notables are his back-up singing during "Crawling" ($2 Bill) and Easier To Run during the last chorus. Mike's best rapping performances would have to be in High Voltage and Papercut live. He's awesome in all songs, I must add.
Another thing you have to remember with voices live, you don't get breaks. Sure, in between songs, but it's not the type of breaks you can take when recording an album. I'm sure the band didn't go one after another on their songs, and it's very unlikely a band can scream, shout, sing, rap, whatever for about an hour straight, and be able to sound like they do on an album.
I think he has to project his voice alot more and be alot louder on stage, its harder for people to hear you when you just talk into the microphone. Because alot of his rapping he does he's usually not screaming like he has to do on stage for people to hear him.
....of course it will sound a little different....and I really like Mike sounds live.....it feels more alive....
Mike has a really nice voice! It's normal that when tey do live shows the voice is a little different!! But they are still wonderful!! LP4EVER
Everybody pretty much sounds different live than they do on the album. If they didn't, it would be lip syncing.
Mike's voice is pretty great on stage, considering that it's not as deep as it is on the albums. The only reason it's like that, though, is because of what you guys have said already: Mike has to be louder on stage, so his voice is going to have to be projected more. It'll be a little higher than normal, but that in itself is normal.
creed and nickelback sound the same live as they do on their cd, most of the time, those are greta live bands, lp is good to, but not great yet...chester is about as good as it gets though
Everyone thinks they manipulate the #### out of Mike and Chester's voice on record to make them sound the way they do. I can tell you right now that's completely untrue and ludicrous to believe. Mike and Chester have sounded 95% like on record in some songs live, and if they were really edited to perfection how could they match the pitches of some songs dead on? Chester sounds damned close to how he is on record in the Reading Festival performance of Numb as well as in the Live In Texas performance. They don't tweak thier voices to the point they aren't the same on record, its just sometimes they can't match themselves because they recorded out of thier range. The only song I can think of that's been manipulated sort of is "Hit The Floor" Mike's voice has a few pitch effects in spots as well as a few flange effects, but thats merely to give the song a special touch. Otherwise I believe what you're hearing wasn't edited at all. Maybe a bit layered for strength but that's it.
Chester sounds awesome live...Mike sounds different live, but also really good. But i guess like the other person said if they sounded same, they could accused of lip-syncing ( which i TOTALLY don't agree with! ) But it's just a fact- performers sound different live then they do on their album. But don't forget, there's alot more moving around onstage then there is sitting in a quiet recording studio and singing.
all Lp members sound awesome both live and recorded, plus, I don't think they would alter Mike's voice
