The Special Edition cover is the best, to be honest. Actually, what I feel that should have done, was the dump the mostly white one and just use the black one, and for the special edition, change the white to orange.
The second one looks like it should be the original, and vice-versa. I think the original cover might be the true inverted picture. Special Edition one just looks better because of how it makes the circle look like a sun or some sort of light, with some weird black ghost lookin things going towards it. Having a black circle like the original one doesn't do shine effect justice so it looks more like a blob than a ray of light.
LP are clever. No one wants the standard edition cover, so they'll all shell out money for the special edition cover. Clever indeed.
I don't like either of them. I actually prefer the original cover, even though the special edition suits the album better and isn't as similar to MtM.
Though I can see the appeal of the special edition's white on dark, I don't know if it would actually catch the eye that way (a black backdrop is common for many alt-rock/metal albums), and its not as unorthodox as the black on white. Therefore despite M2M having the same "color scheme" as this, I feel it will help cement their new image in place, as no longer an exclusively "nu-metal" act. While we may think this understanding has been cemented, it will need defense from a number of bloggers who have hopped on the reviewing band wagon, who will review the album since its such a big release, and will refer to them as "nu-metal band Linkin Park" or "nu-metal rockers, Linkin Park." Mainstream critics however seem to be well aware of the shift in sound, but many others may not remember this change in sound. (oh and GEEZE Dean, you're signature icon has been begging me to come into bed the whole time I've been typing this.)
I prefer the original one, it fills me with a sense of intrigue while the inverted one makes me feel like saying "Ah, I understand." which is pretty boring. See the thing is, you can look at the first one and say "Isn't that suppose to be inverted?" and one the other it's just "Okay, yeah, got it, moving on... " So yeah, because it makes me question it and because I generally like it more, I prefer the original cover instead of the inverted Special Edition one.
Agreed with this whole heartedly, was tryin to express this a post above. btw, its so cool seein this now in the official albums section under "releases."
The special edition! But the special edition cover actually helped the original one grow on me! That may be a valid point!
I like the first one, seeing as it's the official album cover and the one most of us people will be getting. Lazars emoticon is epic.
