I liked the musical aspect of the stems. It sounded interesting but I'm not to sure about the little vocal snippet. I don't think I like Mike's voice being all layered like that

i totally understand you, but i believe in LP and they never let me down. I totally agree with Derek, the music from The Catalyst sound amazing. I had ideas of my own and from the pieces my expectations have already been wrong, their sound was something I hadn't been able to imagine. Here's what I have to say though...it's how I always think things:
"Set goals/in this case expectations high, and break them!"
Now I know people won't agree with that way of thinking but that's the way I believe in things. :D

I can't help but have high expectations and really feel the hype. Worst case scenario - I'll be disappointed, I'll feel like crying and then it will grow on me and I'll love it to death, just like with MTM. Linkin Park hasn't disappointed me so much that I was completely turned off. I doubt they ever will really. There's always something good to look forward to: be it vocals, lyrics, the instrumentation. something. There's always something positive :)

Now that I've settled down, I'm over my initial hate of Mike's vocals in The Catalyst XD It's acapella which is always awkward to hear for the first time.

And this article just re-excites me.

So Rage Against the Machine are the only band that's allowed to have opinions on world issues? Yeah, right!

Come on, seriously. You haven't heard the music and you do not know the lyrics so don't be so hasty to judge anything just this yet.

Woohoo! This is gets me super excited. I love the way how Chester feels confident about the new sound. Am also confident that this is the biggest thing yet from LP.

Who are you to make that assessment?

I'm personally really excited about this album. I liked the stems.

It's good that they will be singing about something else rather than PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY!!!!!!! lol. I actually had enough of all those "I've-got-so-many-problems-with-myself" songs. They should really drift away from that, we're no longer 13-14 year olds. Plus, they haven't been the most creative lyricists in the world either, but the lyrics in The Catalyst are quite an improvement. Hoepfully, they'll keep that up in all the new songs.

I like how Chester is already pumped about putting out another album after ATS. That's crazy! So awesome to see them confident with their music.

In Soviet Russia, The Machine Against Rage!

but in all seriousness, if it sounds good, then it really shouldnt matter what the hell they sing about. They could sing about smoking crack throughout the entire album, as long as it sounds great, then who cares?

What's wrong with singing about politics? I don't get it. As long as they're sending a good message and the lyrics are well-written I'm open for everything.

Yeah, I agree. People are acting like all LP are going to do is sing about politics when in reality a third of the album will probably have nothing to do with politics. Also, that's a pretty loose term and probably not a very accurate one anyway. Just by looking at The Catalyst lyrics it seems to me that it focuses more on the social aspects of the middle-east, rather than the political side. Chetser's lyrics are clearly a first person representation of somebody involved in the conflict, rather than a commentary on the issue.

When I think of LP singing about politics, Hands Held High come to my mind (bombs in your bikes, clothes...) And lyrics about politics are usually: "We know he problem, but we don't have a solution."

The lyrics in "Hands Held High" were meant to be observational rather than trying to convince you of any point. :"
