Welcome to LPA! Hope you enjoy it here. :D
I have a feeling it's too simple, also. Not sure, though.

maybe so, but from the lyrics it's pointing toward something more along the lines of human weapons being a catalyst of war

Yeah, the catalyst is just too easy. I mean I know Mike said the next puzzle wouldn't be a huge challenge, but to go from impossible challenge...to no challenge at all? It's too easy. We're overlooking something.

Maybe it is this easy and they have another, more challenging puzzle lined up already. Although that could just be wishful thinking.

I was kinda thinking that either "A Thousand Suns" and "The Catalyst" had something to do with the new album/single or that it was part of some bigger puzzle. o.o

I dunno, lol. Maybe it really is that simple and the next one will be hard then simple again? *shrug*

Exactly, look at the lyrics. They are obviously from a person at war / soldiers perspective: Symphonies of Blinding Light = Explosions & gunfire. When he speaks of closing his eyes with "symphonies of blinding light" he's obviously dying mid-battle. I say this because "like (his) memories in cold decay" is a metaphor for all he remembers from his life, juxtaposed with "transmission echoing away"; his radio is still echoing orders, whilst he remembers the good things from his life, which are now tainted because he's dying like this. He then says "Far from the world of you & I where oceans bleed into the sky", remembering the one he loves at home, who this section of the lyrics is aimed at.

Either way, I'm feeling this album could have some real meat on it's bones.

Yeah the lyrics are some of the best and most metaphoric I've ever seen from the band.

No "pain" no "lies", just pure metaphor. This is the Linkin Park I missed!

Catalyst means either 1.chemical that accelerates chemical reaction: a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any change
2.stimulus to change: somebody or something that makes a change happen or brings about an event
But I'd probably have to go with 2. on this one. It makes more sense. Cant wait for the new album!!!!!

"ocean bleeds into the sky" could refer to the oil spill maybe...?

anyway, I really hope these are lyrics, because they're great.

And there's the line about being under a gun, there's like three meanings you can derive from that, at least.

A play on the phrase "under the gun"
    A play on "under God"
Loaded gun = what comes before a smoking gun, ie conclusive evidence for a crime
