    MTV.com

Looks like when they re-launch it will be based on the Ultimate Spider-Man franchise instead.

I'm sure every young actor just jizzed for their agent to get them this part.

    yeah... thats pretty big fail...

Didn't the last movie's ending completely set up a sequel? I didn't really fully enjoy the second or third movies but I was really enjoying the long going plot in them and would have liked to see that continue or at least conclude...

they should cast the guy from twilight into it... bahah

Haha, that would be awful. It's pretty odd to know they wont be continuing with the current franchise. I've always been a huge Spider-Man fan, and in a way looking forward to where they take it, but it is a shame. I really had so many gripes with the third film though and maybe this is a good thing.

Well I liked Ultimate Spider-Man haha.

I'm pretty open, I'm sure I'll enjoy the new film.

And Tobey bothered me as an actor anyways.

Well to be fair, the Spider-Man series has gone to crap.

And Marvel movies have been tending towards the Ultimate universe anyways. Hence why Sam Jackson is Nick Fury. The original Nick Fury was white, Ultimate Nick Fury was BASED on Sam Jackson.

Reboots have been working well with Marvel properties. The whole Ultimate universe was a reboot, and it's wildly successful. Filmwise, reboots have been the saving grace of superhero flicks. Look at The Incredible Hulk. Batman Begins. Superman Returns.

Fantastic Four is slated for a remake as well.

Will it automatically be awesome? Not necessarily. It could still suck. But the whole point of my ridiculously meandering post is that there's still a big (50/50 basically) chance that a good Spider-Man movie is coming.

And God do we need a good Spider-Man movie. I still throw up in my mouth at Venom.

For what the three movies were they were enjoyable, not great, but enjoyable. But I don't find myself caring much about it being canceled. I just wonder who will be cast.

The only disappointment I have with this decision is that we will no longer see Tobey as Peter Parker, other than that I can totally see this as being an appropriate decision. Although the trilogy is still relevant, it's not making an effort to mesh with the current Superhero trend at the moment.

However, as great as a decision I see this to be, I just can't help but realize that it's no more than a disagreement gone sour between Raimi and Marvel/Sony. Furthermore, it's quite obvious from this point on that Avi Arad, and Lauren Zitski along with Sony want to control the reigns of the project as much as they can, so any average to big-time director they hire for the rebooted franchise is moot. Thus, our faith lies in the hands of Sony, and hope that they have what it takes to "wow" us with the reboot.

At this point in time, it's safe to say that none of us can imagine just how the reboot will turn out to be. Are they going to change the suit? Will they cast a young and well-known group of young adults for the roles to try and capture a "Twilight"-like buzz? (hope-fucking-not) Time will tell, and they'd better get it right.

Honestly, the only thing I'm looking forward to is a symbiote storyline reboot, but even with that, chances are slim due to the 'Venom' film that we're supposed to receive in the near future.

But who would be the bad guy? I mean if its green goblin, doc oc, sandman, venom, it will almost be like copying the old movies.

Lets face it, spider man doesn't really have any decent villains that haven't already been cast unless you change their costumes. The shock guy had a big star mask, the lizard man... the vulture thing...

They are all pretty silly ideas for a live action movie...
And I don't see how the better old villains could get much improvement.

Idk, I think this is just destined to fail...
I was really looking forward to seeing Hobgoblin or the return of green goblin in the original series.

The series I did like though was the MTV spider man cartoon. I always though it was a good reboot.

But..why would they re-use the villains established in the first spider-man trilogy? That would be silly.

Sony is contracted for a total of 6 Spider-Man films, which leaves room for atleast three more villains to make their motion picture debut for the remaining 3 films (now slated as a rebooted trilogy) There is still a great roster of villains for the franchise. I'll throw out a few that would work in favor of today's Superhero movie trend. Tombstone, Carnage, The Lizard, Mysterio.

    This is kind of disappointing.

I still hope that they make a film including the Lizard at some point, though.

It seems I missed some villains when I was thinking of them haha. Though when I think to the coolest and most threatening villains in the franchise, it'd defiantly be Doc Oc, Green Goblin, and Venom, so maybe it is actually a good thing that they are restarting the franchise. If they make a 4th movie with a villain who is significantly less threatening then spiderman's past foes, it would be weak.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I'm not expecting much.

Also whoever stated they might make a new Fantastic 4 reboot, that would be good in my opinion. I feel like those moves were very mediocre.

On one hand I'm sad because Sam Raimi and the cast did a great job with the first two movies and from the looks of the recent news it seemed like they were taking their time with this fourth one, even though I was on the fence with it at first. But on the other hand I see this as a good news. The third one was pretty bad and honestly I was getting a little tired of the cast and the overall feel of the movies.

With a fresh new cast and a great director behind the camera this new start might give us something good.

Just get Uwe Boll to direct, and finally kill this piece of shit franchise. Spiderman is probably the wimpiest of the big name Marvel superheroes.
