In a recent blog update posted on Mikeshinoda.com; Linkin Park emcee Mike Shinoda has announced that the band is now in the process of working on five finished songs for the new Linkin Park record; having narrowed the previous count of 60 songs down to a total of 20.

    Quoting from Mike's blog post:

    [thumb]http://www.lpassociation.com/articleimages/111609-210241_1258330867.93354.Studio.jpg[/thumb]

"Of the 20, we're trying to focus on 5 right now, and get them finished. The work has been going exceptionally well--I think all the guys are more focused than ever. I don't know for sure, but I would bet that the average song length on these is around the 4-5 minute mark; a bit longer format than our usual stuff. We're really enjoying being in the studio right now, trying to be as creative and adventurous as we can, while letting our sense of songwriting, rhythm, and melody guide the way through the chaos."

While this is not any way an indication as to where Linkin Park is currently in the recording process, the above quote suggests that the band may be well on their way to finding the final batch of songs they intend to use for the new record.

No release date has been confirmed nor mentioned by the band as of yet, and the band has yet to reach the final stages of completing the record. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

"4-5 minute mark" eh? How adventurous.

But really, I hope he's right.

Oh and this thread said maybe summer 2010 for the new album. I don't know about that late 2010/early 2011 stuff.

Yes that excited me the most. Especially considering the best songs on Minutes To Midnight were the longer songs. :)

Sweet. So essentially, we could say they are 33%- 41% done with the album. :p

Well..notice my caution in the news post.

The band could very well finish five songs...but then write another 60 to be whittled down. I'd say Chester's estimate of June at the earliest was a very safe bet..I don't think this record is coming out till the band is fully satisfied with it.

    Thanks, Capt. Obvious!

    I'll sort of play it safe with the guesses;

I think the album will have twelve full songs, perhaps including an instrumental. Length-wise, obviously, I think it'll be between forty-five minutes and an hour, because, I think they will manage to have an average song length of four-to-five-minutes this time. ;)

I have the strangest feeling that we may actually get B-Sides in some singles. Here's to hoping :)

And just so long as the songs aren't just repeated choruses, I'm excited for the longer tracks.

Well if they decide to use the maximum 80 minutes on the CD (which I highly doubt, but for the sake of this estimate, I'll use it), if every track were 5 minutes long, that would be sixteen songs. Seeing as the traditional LP album is somewhere around 30-40 minutes long, I expect closer to six or eight tracks. And that's only if every song is five minutes long. This could come out any combination of ways.

oh yes...some songs are complete...they are gettin there........but now we can forget about the June 2010 possibility that Chester threw out there.....late 2010/early 2011 might turn into late 2011/early 2012 =(

I hope we atleast will hear something new....unless Lockjaw is as new as we'll get till mid next year =( Come on guys give us a treat besides LPU 9.0!! lol

2011 is kiiiiinda BS. They said they didn't want as long of a wait as the one between Meteora and MtM...and that's pretty much what this would be. 2007-2011 = 2003-2007

If it's not out by 2010, especially summer of 2010, I will be really disappointed.

So you'd rather have them rush out a subpar album that does nothing for them as a band, than wait till 2011 for a cd that could very well be some of their best works?

"I'll take the latter for 200 Alex."

I don't want another rehash of what we've heard before. I'll wait till 2011 if it means this album won't have powerchords or the word pain 13 times on it like Meteora did.

I love this band, support them fully..but they have not realized their true potential musically since Reanimation.
