Thought this was kinda interesting. The nominations are: Red Hot Chili Peppers LL Cool J Kiss Genesis The Stooges Donna Summer ABBA Darlene Love Laura Nyro The Chantels The Hollies Jimmy Cliff Kiss, Genesis, and ABBA definitely deserve it, not sure how I feel about RHCP though. A lot of other bands deserve it in my opinion over them. They should get in but not before Alice Cooper or Deep Purple or The Who. Then again I was annoyed when U2 got in before Black Sabbath. What are your thoughts? Oh, and here is a list of everyone already in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rock_and_Roll_Hall_of_Fame_inductees
Did I read that correctly? The fucking Who haven't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet?! Insanity.
No according to wikipedia The Who are already in there. Edit: Genesis were horrible for a lot of their career aside from when they started til around '77. As far as prog goes, King Crimson and Yes should be in there before Genesis.
Lots of bands should be in before Genesis, I hate them, but that's all there is to choose from. And yeah, how in the hell does LL Cool J get nominated before Yes/King Crimson/Roxy Music/Hundreds of others who deserve it.
RHCP didn't invent practically every aspect of the modern stage show. You can trace almost any widely-used stage effect - pyro/lasers/big screens/whatever back to either KISS, Pink Floyd, or Alice Cooper. KISS also has more albums that have gone Gold (or better) than any other U.S. band, or at least they did as of a few years ago. Pretty much. You get in by being voted in by a panel of music snobs critics, most of whom happen to be staff members or friends of people who work at Rolling Stone magazine. No wonder so many acts who deserve to be in aren't, and so many "WTF" acts get nominated every year. And their bias knows no bounds - one of the panel members has gone on record as stating "KISS is a shitty band that WILL NOT get into the Hall of Fame as long as I'm alive, mark my words." Hence why Run DMC and Madonna are in the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame, but KISS and Rush aren't. The only reason KISS made it onto the ballot (keep in mind, they've been eligible for 11 years and have been snubbed up to this point) is because people like Eddie Trunk have been raising hell about it for the past few years. Anyway my 5 would be: KISS ABBA Genesis The Stooges Donna Summer (shouldn't be in the "Rock and Roll" hall of fame, but if Madonna and Run DMC can get in, might as well put her in too, she's contributed more to music over a longer period than RHCP has) Realistically, it'll probably be the following: Genesis Red Hot Chili Peppers Donna Summer LL Cool J And one of the ones hardly anybody's ever heard of, like Jimmy Cliff. They pick one "who?" artist every year without fail, purely because the people on the panel of voters love to be all elitist and name-drop obscure artists. ABBA and KISS have been snubbed in the past, no reason to think that'll change, and I don't expect people who work at Rolling Stone magazine to have the common sense to induct the Stooges.
A fairer system would be conducting by how old a band is. (older bands get in first) That way you get a more realistic and complete view of all the legends compared, knowing that only x number of bands get allowed in each year. Also, I think only bands that are broken up forever should be admitted. But everyone knows this isn't about being fair...
Why only broken up bands? That's a bit bizarre, when you think about it. Bands who still exist, who've stuck together for a while, they don't deserve to be recognized? I'm just saying, the Rolling Stones, bands like that, they're LEGENDARY. They're still together too, some of them. Should they be denied?
fuck KISS. They're money grubbing pieces of shit that stick to the formula that makes them the most money. Legendary? Yes. Do I personally think they should be inducted? No. I wish they'd just quit making music. Genesis and the Stooges, most definately. Maybe Donna Summers, too. I don't really see the impact that RHCP have left, nor LL Cool J.
I don't care for LL Cool J one way or another, but it's the rock and roll hall of fame. I have a hard time seeing how an artist who maybe has some small relationship to the genre should get in. That's like saying Michael Jordan should be in the MLB hall of fame because he played for a brief stint and is a great athlete. Sorry, just doesn't cut it in my book.
