Recentely; in an interview with billboard.com Mike Shinoda took the time to sit down and answer questions about Linkin Park's new hit single "New Divide", Fort Minor, and the direction the band plans to head with their new record.

    On the new record's sound:
""We mentally want to get back to [2000's "Hybrid Theory"] not because we want to sound like [that], because I don't think we do," Shinoda says of the forthcoming Linkin Park album, which they aim to release in the first half of 2010. "But we want to make this record a record with identity, hopefully not one you've heard before. One you can listen to and say, 'That's brand new... It's definitely Linkin Park, but it's definitely different.'""

Thanks to Julie of billboard.com for the news!

Julie sent it to us when it was first posted on billboard. We just were slow in checking the site email. If it's that big of an issue I can put your name there too, but Julie wrote us first.

Anyway. I love Mike and the rest and the band and all that, but seriously. We've heard this before Meteora came out, and we've heard this before Minutes to Midnight came out. Everything the band says I take with a grain of salt, because usually the final product isn't how they originally described. Plus, half the time, the band isn't even on the same page it seems, especially Mike and Chester. A few months ago, Chester confirmed Rick Rubin as the producer, but then Mike comes out and says nothing is set in stone.

In my opinion, this band needs to get on the same page with what they tell the media. They get everyone excited with what they're going to do for the next record, yet they don't back their words up. Though, what they endup releasing is pretty fucking good anyway, it isn't what they said it'd be. Everyone gets their expectations so high, then when the record is released, it isn't anything close to those expectations and then everyone shits all over it.

While I agree with what you are saying, everyone has their own opinions and not everyone, even the most diehard LP fan is going to agree on everything when it comes to the music. LP has stated this and that and this is and that and gave us something completely different. No one is bashing the band, we just need validity in what they are saying. If they say "we're gonna make a heavy rock record", we don't want to hear a record that sounds like it was produced by one of the guys from Nsync. It just comes down to excitement from the band with their current sound. Whatever they are working on currently, they talk to the media about. They mess around with different sounds in the studio, create hundreds of ideas/demos and only use 12 on a record that may or may not be even remotely close to what they stated they were working on. LP is not the only culprit in this, as many bands jump the gun, especially this early in the new record process. I still get excited every piece of information that comes out, but I'm not going to bust until I hear samples of the record or finished songs before the album hits.

Totally. It's obvious everyone here hates the band and wishes they would catch swine flu or something.

Just because this is a fansite doesn't mean we have to blindly follow everything they do and support every move they make like mindless zombies. The band deserves to hear the truth from their fans, even if that truth isn't always the best thing.

I actually want them to PHYSICALLY get back to hybrid theory not MENTALLY. Last thing on my mind was to hear that thing coming from mike i didn't expect him to say that great thing at all. i thought about him saying same old boring things like "will be about new pure material that we didn't make before" or "more cutting-edge" or "we just needed to move on with a new style". hehe

Anyway i feel like the new album will be SO MUCH better than M2M. Don't ask how!

I want the creativity, texture and mood of Hybrid Theory but I want the lyrical maturity and musical expertise of Minutes To Midnight with some unexpected surprises thrown in. I don't want a sound-alike of any of those albums...but something new that has all the elements of why we started loving LP in the first place.

wow.. Ok look..how old are you? cuz it wouldnt suprise me if you were like 13 cuz of the way you respond to everything Linkin Park. I'm sure we were all at the same place with always agreeing with what LP does like you are right now. but alot of us have matured and realized that they arent a perfect band and they can always improve. If we hear something that's crap that comes from them we will say its crap. We wont automatically say its awesome strictly because it's Linkin Park. We are smarter then that

Lots of LPA members have been around since Hybrid Theory and have had a chance to both love LP and also to grow musically over the long years to listening to many talented bands, musicians and songwriters of all sorts of persuasions even ones that don't necessarily appeal to teenagers. I believe that, if LP were to heed any of the comments or criticisms given here, it would simply nudge them in a more sophisticated, progressive, adult direction than what they've done in the past while preserving the elements that made LP great to begin with. (At least that seems to me to be a somewhat accurate summary of dominant thought about here.)

Nothing wrong with having an opinions, and it's a reasonable one given the background of many posters here.
