This is the first verse to a song I'm working on with two friends. We've been experimenting with some acoustic hip-hop with sung choruses and some violin, piano, and sax incorporated at different points in various tracks. Each track is storm-themed (e.g. snow, desert, thunder, etc.) This one is the Thunder one and is supposed to depict the story of a man who has somehow lost his way in a deserted plain with a heavy thunderstorm looming. It is intended to reflect how one can end up in some pretty dark places in life and deal with problems and what not but rather than run and hide from them, if you tough it out and face them you can overcome them. I guess in short having a positive outlook on life: bad things happen but there's always tomorrow. My eyes awaken to the rainfall, another day Another place, another face I lost along the way I can’t remember how I got here and I’m all alone Searching for shelter but I find myself searching for home I’ve traveled different roads, settled in different scenes And through it all I’ve witnessed the change inside of me So as I slowly rise, I stare into the sky A flash before my eyes the sound of the crash tickles my spine Now I could turn and run, but I just stop and stare Without a care because I know before that I’ve been there Nowhere for me to hide, across this new divide Swallow my pride, I won’t always survive the truth and lies The scars that never seal, the pain that never heals You live with it, it makes you stronger if it doesn’t kill So let the current hit me even if tomorrow isn’t promised Experience the worst it’s worth it for the greater purpose I've got a little snippet recording up here if you're interested in listening: http://www.myspace.com/versionone Thanks for reading/listening! Let me know what you guys think.
So I finished the second verse and got the rough mix of the full track up at the link above. Here's verse two: The clouds are circling, precipitation grazing my cheeks They form a wicked smile, is this real or am I asleep? Laughing at me now, they watch me turn around It's like I'm caught in this whirlwind as I'm rising down Or is it falling up? Everything is in reverse I cycled through my life to find myself, I ended up at birth That's when I figured it out, I knew that I was saved For plans beyond my own control, my own desires, my own way Looking back on it all, the future said to me To cherish every moment, seize every opportunity So I see what's in front of me, instead of this uncertainty And certainly I'm worry-free now that see is a certainty Step back, and reflect on all of this You can be a pessimist or give your life an uplift After what I've been through, I know that I have seen the storm appear before And know that by tomorrow it'll be clear Any feedback/comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
