Here's the approximate times for the new album: As I Am - 7 min. This Dying Soul - 11 1/2 min. Endless Sacrifice - 11 min. Honored be thy father - 10 min. Vacant - 3 min. (a soft, beautiful interlude like 'Wait for Sleep') Stream of Conicousness - 11 min. (Instrumental) In the Name of God - 13 1/2 min (lyrics by John Petrucci) Totalling for a decent (for them) time of 66-67 minutes. The single will be 'As I Am'. Drummer Mike Portnoy also said that they will probably do a video for it, citing a spike in popularity and the sales of their last two discs. You can check out a bio/video sample of them at MTV.com if you like. Hopefully, we'll be able to hear at least 'As I Am' before November 11th! So be ready!
I don’t understand the point of such long songs. I guess I just never got into the whole "let’s-make-10-minute-long-songs" thing.
First of all, you need to be VERY talented to play that kind of music. Dream Theater is comprised of the best musicians of today. SEE SIG! I think you would have to get used to their style; their songs are all packed with great riffs, awesome solos (the guitarist is probably the best guitarist of the 90s), and the singing is great as well. @ Fred Durst - They won't be boring trust me. Download 'Lie', 'Pull Me Under', 'Blind Faith' or maybe the heavy 'The Glass Prison' to see what I mean. @ Will - If the right band makes them, 10 minute songs are much more rewarding than 3 minute ones. @ Sup 103 - If you like Overture 1928, you'll like the instrumental 'Erotomania'. If you happen to like that try some other stuff like 'Another Day' (their hit ballad), 'Pull Me Under', and their biggest hit 'Lie'. They've played it on MTV!
