So I'm watching TV, flipping through the channels. I get to MTV2 and the video for Stan by Eminem is on. Since nothing else is on, I watch the thing, paying attention to the censorship. Here's the lyrics to the song, bold text was censored (I didnt bold some of the bad words that would obviously be censored):

Honestly, this crap makes me sick. They take out everything. Why was the part about them meant to be together censored? What's so bad about it? Whats the point of showing music videos if all you're going to do is bleep out every other word?

    Anyone else agree?

You must have been watching some uncensored version, because a lot of those parts were censored when the video was in heavy rotation.

But aside from that, yeah, people have been pushing the profanity level a lot, but if it's what will give them ratings, then they're going to do it :chemist:.

I hate cencorship. I figure if you don't want your kids to listen to it then don't let them. If they listen to it anyway then thats their problem. They will hear it all at some time. It totaly sucks how much they cut of stan. It's so stupid. Rant over for me :p

It was definitely not uncensored. The parts in bold were everything they took out

Ack, sorry, I think I missed that .

I see now, but in any case, it's still a shame how they are filling commercial television with profanity.

People are even beginning to think it's okay to treat women like prostitues and call yourself a pimp .

    Here's my opinion
Censors look for anything that could even remotely, very remotely be linked to anything else remotely related to anything bad.

Most of the bolded parts aren't censored on Much.

    Your censors suck.

I agree, Muchmusic doesn't do much with "Stan" but I find it hilarious to watch Papa Roach's "Last Resort", it goes:

so basically this is what you hear until the chorus.

    cut my life into pieces
    this is my last resort
    suffocation
    no breathing
don't give a #### if i cut my arm bleeding

    this is my last resort

i crack up every time after listening to it.

as much as I don't like censorship, i have to agree with it:

little kids like my 8 year old cousin have access to these channels, and for them, it just would not be appropriate.

But, it doesn't bother me too much though, the songs are what im more concerned about.

It has nothing to do with the kids since modern TVs have parental controls and VChips, trust me, your 8 year old cousin probably has absolutley no idea what "don't give a #### if I cut my arm bleeding" means. They're covering their asses. So if Billy kills himself after seeing the Last Resort video, Billy's parents cant sue Muchmusic because he got the idea from them. Sad, but true. I dont know about Canada, but maybe if America's legal system didn't allow people to sue for every little thing, then the censorship wouldn't be nearly as strict

Censorship is very ridiculous these days. I'm just glad that book censoring is not that bad anymore. I understand why some things should be censored, but other things are just absurd.

Something I noticed, was radio censorship. They have removed the ban on most words said on radio. Not in the songs, but what the Djs say. Now they can say things like wh*** and s*** they just cant say stuff like s*** and f***

MTV is getting pathetic with cencorship. They censor out the word 'drugs', but on their reality shows they allow 'b*tch' to be said.

For one of my classes we have to do a project on a human dilemma that we choose. Thanks to this topic, I decided to do it on censorship of books, music, and movies and how it contradicts the first amendment and freedome of speech. I should have a lovely time working on this ^^

Radio is weird, here at least.

Some songs are censored, some aren't. Like I've never heard a censored version of Staind's "For You" on the radio. Other songs are censored a lot. Like in Sublime's Santeria, they take out "punk ass"
