Female rock bands

There aren't many of those around. Of course, Evanescence has a great female vocalist but it's not an all-girl band. I don't like the Donnas and the Suffrajets so I'd say Hole is the best I've heard so far. Courtney Love isn't exactly my favorite artist but she's pretty awesome in the 'Celebrity Skin' video. So why do you think rock and heavy metal bands are so predominantly male?

Because girls who like rock and metal are rare. Sad but true. A lot of them (at least the ones I know) seem to like teenie bopper pop. And the ones that do like rock and metal may not have the talent or desire to be in a band.

It really sucks, I wish we did have some more female rock/metal groups

I totaly agree with you. i am a girl and most of my friends and people at my school are into all the rubbishy pop. I am considered weird at my school just because i like different music to evyone else. I would love to see more female rock bands around but i just don't think it is gonna happen anytime soon :( :( :(

I'd like to see more female rock artists out there also. I mean, rock isn't always just reserved for guys. It's hard finding people that likes the same music as me, since most people I know like hip hop/rap/R&B or pop. It's sad, really...

..that's why I plan to start a rock band sometime later. :)

Well, rock is aggressive, and males are by nature aggressive. Its like you don't see many men doing ballet , and you don't see any women doing metal, and I mean heavier metal like death metal or black metal! I just couldn't see a girl growl like the cookie monster

Women don't have as much testosterone so they don't have that same urge to do something like that.

Thats the only way I can explain it....

I'm a girl... and I like rock and metal and i want to be in a band. I have a bit of talent :p

    I like Kittie :)

And your right Todd, it just happens to be that there aren't enough girls who like metal...And the ones that do often don't have the voice for a metal band.

In the way of punk bands you've got Tsunami Bomb and the Distillers, both female-fronted. Brody Armstrong (the Distillers) could sing in a metal band...

I have asperations of being in a rock band, I think female rock bands need to be re-defined, and more of them need to emerge! I would be in one, but girls around here all wanna be cheerleaders, or models and crap. Nobody wants to start a rock band...I guess it's 'cuz I live in "redneck" territory.

    That sucks :(

I think I might have a drummer for my band soon (I hope). And then need a singer. Wouldn't mind a female singer.

I have been writing lyrics and singing for about three years now. I recently bought a guitar, and at the moment I can only play one thing.....In The End....I think I would have to move to even try to start a band.....maybe...Cali?

Another thing is girls probably don't or can't scream like Chester does. Female rock bands are great even if I don't like them all 'cause at least they have enough sense to ditch pop for something with more substance. If you think about it, a lot of genres (pop, R'n'B, etc.) actually have a pretty even share of male and female artists EXCEPT rock & metal. Imagine a female version of Slipknot...it'd be weird but fun to watch :p

    I want a band. I play guitar...

Tsunami Bomb is an awesome band but it's just a girl vocalist.

Kittie is an awesome chick band. Check them out.

    I love Hole.

    Kittie do ;p

I think Kittie are a great band, In Winter, Brackish and Paper-doll are all songs I recommend to anyone that's thinking of giving them a listen.

Girl bands are OK, but some just need to be shot *coughHOLEcough*. Sugarcoma was a half decent attempt - I'm not sure what's happened to them though...

Does anyone like the Donnas? I thought they'd be good but now I seriously hate them. (No offence to any fans)
