Is it very subtle or quick?

If you left the mouse at night at one side, do you find that it has moved to the otherside?

try Replacing the mousepad and use something else and see if it does that still?

If it's a laser mouse, it's likely the surface it's on is causing it to glitch like that. If it's a ball mouse, get a laser mouse.

I remember having a problem where my mouse cursor would just surf around the screen by itself, though in very straight lines.

I never did figure out what the problem was.

Was it an optical (not laser)?

They tend to have fits on all sorts of surfaces.

Yeah. I've only ever used optical mice. (I almost typed mouses.) It was just weird because it would move from one side of the screen to the other in a perfectly straight line with no one touching the mouse. I almost convinced my dad our house was haunted because of it.

Jeez...I've had the same problem a hell lotta times. Then my cursor wouldn't move the direction i want it to. I think that's the problem with my cursor cord. It's pretty long, and to keep it on the table, I need to fold it. So I move the mouse one way, and the cord moves the other way, and the therefore the cursor moves on its own. Meh....
