That's a very good point. It's just when you take it to the extreme (such as with Cronulla over here) that it's wrong.

Yeah true. If you don't like it, why come here? I'm not saying that to try and come off as racist, because I say instead of people like that coming to Australia (or whatever country in question), let in more of the refugees who actually need to be here.

 

That has to be the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard. Free in it's very definition of the word will never - ever - be realized in any country or political state. I don't mind that I can't go to my work and burn it to the ground and not get away with it, but the word free means I can do whatever I please without fear of prosecution. Can I? No. We as Americans aren't free. We're only as free as our government wants us to be, and that applies for all countries around the world.

Freedom isn't the word. As controversial as this opinion might be around these parts, and this forum, I think of it as controlled slavery.

 

True freedom in that sense means chaos. If you're for that, then that's great, but the thought of that makes me a little bit uneasy.

 

did you read anything i wrote? i'm not for anarchy. the idea is appealing, but capitalism will always reign supreme in the world. "freedom" is a misleading terms, and has been doing it's job of blinding the masses for millions of so called patriots in the United States for centuries. they don't blink when injustices are happen all over the world, but when it comes onto US soil, or the world as a whole (rightfully) critiques us on our non-chalant attitude towards world affairs, the patriots either get all rallied up (9/11, Pearl Harbor) or lash their tongues at those challenging them.

we are not free. no one is free. i simply live in america. i didn't make this decision, it was made for me. yes, i wouldn't want to grow up in a Cambodia or another place like it, because I do enjoy the limited amount of "freedoms" we're given, but I won't stand up for the US. Not when we're bombing innocent children overseas and proclaiming it a military victory over ghost terrorists. sorry. it's not something i'm willing to buy into.

I'm just saying that we're as free as we can be without having chaos. As it is, that's what's happening to this country, and it's making me sick to see how much death we cause within our borders, and outside of them.

 

I would prefer to live almost anywhere else in the world than the UK. So no, I'm not a patriot.

I just don't get patriotism...if you're proud of being what you are, that's fine. It's just not really for me.

 

I'd say it is fine to love them, but to be proud of their accomplishments that you didn't help them with I disagree with.

Casey has made the golden point for anyone who is patriotic because of their so-called 'Democracy'. We aren't free whatsoever. Democracy is hypocrisy in that you're allowed to say whatever you want up until someone says what you're saying is obscene or conflicts with the interest of order.

The truth is we are indeed only as free as our government wants us to be. I guess there are pros and cons to this ideology in that it prevents complete chaos from happening, but it is also quite frightening to think about how many people who cling on to Democracy like a safety blanket when in actual fact they are prisoners of the very thing that claims to give them their freedom of speech.

But nationalism is more negative than patriotism. Nationalism has always led to wars between nations. What I detest the most is that nationalistic political parties still exist in the Parliament [and in the Universities, too!]! I mean come on people! Just use your minds! Nationalism is sooooooo stupid!
