Forget about melodies and catchy beats or riffs...what bands do you consider to be the best, lyrics wise? For me, I love A Perfect Circle's lyrics and Death Cab for Cutie. I'll probably think of more later, but I wanna know what you guys think.
For me, I kinda separate the bands that I think are lyrically brilliant by generations, because lyrics that are great in one generation might not seem so great later. However, any bands I think are lyrically great in any generation, I generally find lyrically great today. I've got a few I can think of off the top of my head. Green Day The Beatles HIM Whitesnake Guns N Roses Queen Overall though, I'd say that it's a tie between Queen and the Beatles.
Between The Buried & Me (in particular, Colors), Opeth, Tool (Ænima/Lateralus era), The Mars Volta/At The Drive-In/The Fall On Deaf Ears, etc.
I definitely agree with adding the Beatles to my list, though there are a lot of people that don't like them, I love their lyrics. I thought of a couple more: System of a Down Nine Inch Nails Panic at the Disco....(A Fever You Can't Sweat Out) Tool
I Think From Autumn To Ashes lyrics are great, although i cant relate to them much of the time. Their just witty and all of it works in with song.
Linkin Park Nine Inch Nails Silverchair Midnight Oil Smashing Pumpkins And Stone Temple Pilots, if you're in the mood for deciphering shit.
Linkin Park Asian Kung Fu Generation Ellegarden (The Japanese Songs are very good lyricly) As I lay dying Demon hunter Smashing Pumpkins AFI Deftones Eminem Greenday Queen more later
