In an new interview with Harry Potter producers David Barron and David Heyman both refuse to rule out the possibility of splitting seventh and final movie, The Deathly Hallows, into two films.

    Mr. Barron states:

We are still discussing it. The announcement will be made hopefully in the not-too-distant future, with regards to the way seven shapes up.
The only negative of splitting the book into two films is that people could possibly perceive it as being one last chance at cashing in. But the real positive, if we were to do that, would be that we wouldn't have quite the battle we always have of 'How do you compress all that book into just over two hours of screen time?'

    While Mr. Heyman says:

A couple of people have expressed interest, people have gotten a few calls and a few emails, but it's still a year away. We won't start filming 'til February next year. So it hasn't really gone bananas yet. We've got thoughts, and I'm sure something will be announced in the not-too-distant future.

I personally think that there is no point in splitting it up. They could've easily applied this idea to GoF/OotP instead of cancelling out important parts from the book.

I agree, it's sounds like a really weird decision because they've always cut out important parts in the past.

If they would split it, I know part 1 will be pretty boring considering most of the action is totally at the end.

Just make a really long movie. The last book is worthy of that.

There are also rumours that Steven Spielberg might direct DH. But Dan Radcliffe debunked this rumor at the BAFTA's event, saying: I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It's not true. How's that for a definitive answer? It's absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It's not true. There's absolutely no foundation in that at all.

I heard rumors of Guillermo Del Toro doing it. He was supposed to do Prisoner of Azkaban but passed on it.

Deathly Hollows wasn't even the longest book, was it? It'd be stupid to split it up.

I concur. I wouldn't mind the length at all, it would make a fantastic film if done with enough care.

Producer 1: Oh shit! That's the last Harry Potter book!
Producer 2: That means one last movie to make hundreds of millions of dollars for us!
Evil Producer: Why don't we split it up into two movies so we can make hundreds of millions of dollars twice-over?
    Newly converted evil producers: YAY!

Aren't the vast majority of major producers evil in the first place? :p

With a franchise as big as The Harry Potter Series..I don't see why they can't Make 3 Hr Movies.

Lord of the rings did and i never even heard of LOTR till the movies came out (Sad i know but i was younger)

Seems interesting. Seeing as they're already talking about the 7th book/movie, does that mean the 6th is already finished or something.

Ohh, I beg to differ! The first 6 were like that, but not the 7th, in my opinion. It was exciting all the way through!
    [/dork]

And what Mark said is basically it. Hell, I know I would pay for both, and probably see both several times, so hey, good plan. :p

As derek said, this movie deserves to be a really long one. It will be really dissapointing if they drop alot of scenes in this one.

I don't think one full movie would keep the attention of the viewers.

Besides, the splitting up of the movies might actually explain what the fuck the Deathly Hallows are, because the book totally went fast in that.

"harry potter and the goblet of fire" -- in the movie, harry runs by the body of crouch on the ground. in the book, this is a big point in the story and harry makes a big deal out of it. but, in the movie, harry just runs by and totally disregards it.

"harry potter and the order of the phoenix" -- the portrait of sirius' mother is almost totally ignored; harry's row with his best friends in the black house (my favourite part of the book) and his row with dumbledore after sirius dies ... those two scenes are watered down so badly. disappointing stuff.

if they're willing to cut stuff like that out, why are they so determined to be faithful doing the sixth movie?

God, you poor, neglected child... :p

But yea, if they didn't split the others up, I see no need to split this one.
