Maybe I should've given this a different title. I've been listening to the recent LP concerts of PR, and then I listened to Live In Texas and a concert I downloaded. To me, it seems like LP's performances are starting to go downhill. Now, I'm not saying they're bad, but they aren't as good as they used to be. In OST, Chester screaming "Shut up!" just doesn't seem as good as it used to; same with some of his singing (just depends I guess). Mike sounds out of breath when he raps (and he could use a kick in the ass from Chester so he starts singing louder XD). I don't find much odd about the actual music, but I do like that they're extending some of their older songs and doing solos. So, what do you guys think of LP's live shows now?
i saw LP back in November 2003 (Manchester, UK) and for me, it was the best gig i've been too. and not only that, it is one of the best, if not THE best LP gig i've managed to get hold of. im seeing LP in January 2008, in Sheffield. so i cant really comment untill then really.. but i kinda understand what you mean. the most logical explanation would be that they've grown in the four or five year period your on about. and the endless touring is starting to take hold. i cant imagine it would be an easy thing to do still i'd say LP are one of the best live bands out their atm
I think they sounded their best around 2004 actually. To answer the question, though, I think in some ways they've gotten better, in others they're not as good. One thing I've noticed, is that as the PR shows went on, the shows just got better and better. Chester's voice gets stronger, the band gets tighter, and far less mistakes are made. I think the 2.5 years they spent off the road may have made them a bit rusty, but they seem to be coming back stronger. I predict by PR '08 they'll be at their peak, as far as live performances.
I went to the small concert at the Astoria back in April this year and I think they put in just as much energy as I've seen from them before. I mean let's face it, all those years of touring takes an effect on you. If sometimes they don't seem 100% on stage it's only because of fatigue.
Better than ever. the concert in Sydney was perfect. And there was heaps of energy, even though Chester had a broken arm he was still jumping around etc. They were good, but not all that perfect back in the early days. From '04 onwards they've been amazing though.
the '03 shows had more pit-oriented stuff. looking at their summer sanitarium show on the DVD, it was a lot of the obscure "hybrid theory" stuff; "by myself", "with you", "a place for my head", and some off meteora, like, yeah, "figure.09". this '07 show, even if the production's a little bigger, the songs are a little more, just, crowd oriented, featuring a lot of high, loud refrains and catchy hooks and more pop. not so focused on pit action anymore (although that happens of its own accord). the fact that the encore begins with "the little things give you away" is proof enough. the pit focuses more on singing than moshing. there's a lot more songs to hold up your lighter for ... and, so on. this set heavily consists of the band's singles and, in doing that, it caters for a wider audience. but it has also improved - "one step closer" has been put to much better use as an intro rather than an ending, and "faint" and "bleed it out" make excellent outro's. LP are really making use of contrasting dynamics with the "one step closer" set opener and "points of authority" and stuff, the way everything goes quiet and, then, the riffs and drums come in full force. i love that.
Makes sense. But with Chester's screaming, he sounds like he's holding back, same with his singing sometimes. With the stress of moving from state to state and lack of sleep, it's all understandable. Yeah, good point. Personally, I don't really like what they've done with PoA though. I don't know why, the drum line just doesn't like me I guess.
My only complaint is that joe does not head bang enough anymore. I 'm mean back in the day he was going crazy! but now its like he just stands there and presses buttons. and I also prefere their stage design back then, like the one they used in live in texes and on their meteora tour.
I forgot Joe did that. I think he still does something like that every now and then though. I also agree with the stage set up.
Yeah, Meteora had a better stage "theme" and appearance than Minutes To Midnight. But overall I believe that in 2007 the band has gotten much better than 2003. I mean sure there's a little less energy put into everything and all, but the band managed to extend and make some original songs better (Bleed It Out's drum solo, No More Sorrow 1-2 minute intro, One Step Closer intro, Faint's awesome outro and Pushing Me Away piano version). There's been a lot less mistakes since Hybrid Theory and Meteora during live shows. Though it would be awesome if they tried playing Pushing Me Away original or Forgotten once in awhile.
