I'm more than sure that this problem is not solely my own, since one of my friends has this same problem, which is why I'm asking about it here, since there is a large number of people here who use Firefox.

Anyways, the thread title is pretty much a good summary of what the problem is. Basically, Firefox will stop pop-ups on some sites, but won't stop them on other sites. I frequently get pop-ups going to sites for lyrics, but I never get pop-ups from sites where I actually want the pop-ups to come up.

Basically, I'm asking if the ads embedded in the lyrics sites are coded to bypass Firefox's pop-up blocker, or if I'm just dumb.

I find that very weird. I haven't had pop-up problems since a few years ago.

What kind of sites are you going to? Specifically which lyrics sites? I'll try pulling them up and seeing if it happens to me.

Most lyrics sites are shady, but these ones are really good as far as their content and how often they're updated and whatnot. The organization is really, really good, too, which is why I go to them.

    www.azlyrics.com
    www.plyrics.com
    www.darklyrics.com

Those are the only sites I get pop-ups from.

Yeah, I get them on... other sites too. Also a few wrestling sites (one notorious for pop-ups).

I just browsed around all 3, and didn't get a popup from any of them. I do have adblock plus installed, which may be of assistance..

I browsed them all and Firefox blocked all the pop-ups.

Try downloading Adblock plus...it blocks most popups and embedded ads (but I do still get one once in a while).

    OK, maybe I wasn't clear.

Firefox will block one pop-up from those sites, but then another one will come up anyways, like it's bypassing the pop-up blocker somehow.

Yeah. It happens to me on Ultimate Guitar, too. It'll block one pop-up, but another will come up anyways.

Yea that's the same for me.

So people, if you fix Will's problem, you fix mine, and you'll be doubly loved/worshipped. :D

Get the plugin called adblock plus. It works great. Sometimes you need to add sites to the allow list so flash apps dont get blocked, but it blocks a LOT of stuff, and its easy to right click on an ad and tell it to get blocked from now on.

I always get pop-ups on certain lyric sites and especially ROM sites. They're manageable though.
