"The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding." Figured it deserved its own thread now. (Guessing this thread is OK to make?) ...and another one bites the dust.
http://torrentfreak.com/demonoid-shuts-down-again-071109/ It looks like it will be back up eventually
dammit, and only 3 days after I got an invite! I went to the site 30 seconds ago and saw this message. grrrr I will make that a quad-wtf
FUCK. I love Demonoid, it's my favorite torrent site. Damnit! Now Oink and Demonoid are gone so I'm stuck with like [deleted] There's no other good ones besides TPB and the ads there are ridiculous. Second or third time it's majorly gone down this year. It will return I hope.
I don't think it will be back. And this is coming from a long-time member of Demonoid, too. I just don't see it happening.
Hahinator & others: the next time someone mentions a torrent site other than Demonoid or Oink, they will be warned. Yes, it's harsh, but as you can see, the crackdown is coming and we don't want to have any part in it. Once you name a new site, someone asks for an invite, and then we've got a whole thing going.
This sucks. Now I won't be the cool kid in my social circle who gets all the albums before they come out.
Well this royally fucking sucks. The worst part is, all of the decent torrents on the "other" sites are circulated from Demonoid, so even if you never scored an invite (like myself) this is still a pain. I guess I gotta pour my drink on the curb for another dead homie... *sniffles*
Let me start off by saying I'm not trying to be a prick, asshole, anything - nor am I trying to start anything.. ...but I honestly don't think they're going to go after the LPA because someone mentions the name of a tracker or links to it. First of all, unless you're direct linking to an illegally hosted file, you're in the clear. Second of all, linking to the front page of a tracker is no different than linking to Google. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
It's not solely about naming sites. You name a site, then people start asking for invites, then invites get passed along, and next thing you know these forums could be a destination for finding invites to torrent sites hosting illegal downloads. We do not want to be seen as a facilitator of this. We've been through this dozens of times, and that policy is not going to change. The rule is there for a reason.
