Well the good thing was is that she was only fined $71. The rediculous part is that it was because she filmed like, 20 seconds of film. That's like, a really short teaser trailer.

Yeah, this happened a while ago. Honestly rather idiotic, but luckily it was just a slap on the wrist, instead of jail time, like it could have been.

It's a little known fact, but in Canada it's legal to record anything that's viewable by the general public. This includes movies in theaters. The worst they can do is kick you out and NOT take your camera either. This is why Toronto lost a LOT of film premieres, because they decided that lots of the cams were coming out of Canada, when really they mostly come out of New York, Europe and China.

The MPAA and other similar companies have a serious problem when the people who are 'destroying' their livelihood know more about their process and industry than they do.

    hmm interesting

seems a bit daft though, a slap on the wrist would have done i think - jail time is almost laughable for something so petty..

I'm sure the world's going to come to a point where it'll be three years prison time if you show a friend a page from a magazine you bought. Since they didn't buy it, it'd be intellectual theft, since you're sharing it with them.

Maybe that... um, metaphor? didn't work out for me so well.

    Yeah.

Basically what I meant is that you're gonna end up being able to go to jail for just showing a friend a picture from a magazine. That's just about how ridiculous all this shit is getting.

This is how its going to be in 2 years

*goes took the book store, picks up a book and reads the title*

Worker "Sir. I'm sorry but we do not allow reading in here"

Me "why not, this is a book store isn't not?"

Worker "It is, but you did not buy the book, you are stealing ficticious knowledge"

Me "I was just reading the title"

Worker "So you admit you were reading without paying?"

Me "Fuck you" *throws the book down, spits on it, kicks it and leaves*

I agree. I think that the MPAA is crazy for making an example of the girl. They're not scaring anyone. The people who cam movies are theatre owners and high-up employees who have untouched access to the film playing in the theatre. Any other cam with people in the theatre is a random source, 99% of cam groups work out of their own private theatres after-hours where they CAN NOT be caught.
