Guitarist/singer Fred Mascherino decided to leave Taking Back Sunday in early September, after the band wrapped its stint on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour. The only problem was, no one deemed it necessary to announce his departure — at least, until MTV News' inquiries led the group's label to issue a press release Thursday afternoon (October 4). So he decided to do it himself.

"This is the first time I'm talking to anyone about this," he laughed on Thursday. "But, yeah, I have parted ways with Taking Back Sunday. I felt like during the time we were together, we made some great music together, but it was getting to the point where I felt I had taken the road as long as I possibly could."

Mascherino said he's written more than 45 songs over the past two years — the majority of which he said were intended for the follow-up to Louder Now — but when he found the majority of his ideas being shot down by his bandmates, he started to realize that perhaps it was time to move on.

"I hoped to write another record, for sure. But there wasn't a lot of writing going on between the five of us, honestly," he said, speaking in slow, diplomatic bursts. "We weren't really coming together. I felt like it was just a good time to move on, because I was pretty sure I could never make another record with these four guys."

Read a lot more about the departure here.

    I am sad. :(

Considering this guy was my favorite member of TBS (I favored him more than Adam), this news makes me pretty sad as well.

Ah well, I see good things coming from his solo record shall he choose to release one in the near future.

What's with members of bands quitting their bands after they play on PR?!?!

Wow, PR really does seem to be the deathbed of certain bands.

It's obviously not Linkin Park's fault, lol. I guess PR was just the last big tour to go out with a bang.

I caught on right after the whole John Nolan era, so Fred was one of the reasons I liked the band in the first place. I'm curious to see what they do now, and I'll check out Fred's album when it hits in a few weeks.

i mentioned this in the "did you know?" thread up in "linkin park chat" -- every rock band ever signed to machine shop ended up breaking up. ;) i actually planned to buy "louder now" later this week. and i still do.

but, damn, that guy was a good singer.

Maybe it's because when they play with linkin park they say "AWW ZOMG LP R LYK SO MUCH BETR DEN UZ LETZ BRAKE UP!". Probably not but just a thought. Or maybe linkin park spread secret subliminal messages around the tour to make bands break up, so linkin park can own the rock industry of music. Notice why there's so many popular "emo" (shudders at the word) bands on tour?

    lol jk jk

Let's hope FOB is on the next tour. Sorry guys.

    i hate that band...
i could have been the next eminem
just no one has been watching,
    too much stimulus
    i guess
in the cesspool that is the internet...
    i have been building shelves
    i have been writing songs
    i have been construction
    roger miller and then some...
i have so much to tell you
    just i
    i
i dont want to spoil it all for you...
    no.. no.. no..
    on a serious note,
fred has left to capitilize on crayola,
    wish him well, i

    but it tastes so good,
    sweet headlining news..
    everybody has got a story
thank the good lord for the early morning
    edition
    that one before the weekend
    what's opposite of valor?
    what's another word for...
    "oh dont start that again..."

(golly, gee.. stutter, stumble... false, false, negative...)
    all reassured and well,
    you had your warning...
    who cares about the why
    when when when
left with a choice to choose...
i say focus on the task at hand..
what again was the worst tha-a-a-ng?
i have been here since from the start
since from the start my friend...
i have just begun to speak...
    love,
    i have just begun...
    everything i ever left out
    will all be laid out...
    ...in time
just so long as your parents keep
step in that catholic perfect time...
    brother catholic,
    oh father its been
    i cant remember how long..
i dont know where to start...
    you see,
    so instead
    i wrote

    I blame MCR... :whistling

Ok, this news does suck, but I feel like he's going to make a lot of great music in the future and maybe TBS was holding him back.

There last album wasn't the greatest in my opinion...
