EDIT: I originally had this in Other Music but I guess this goes here maybe... if not, could someone move this back to Other Music? ---- Okay, so I've been sick the past two days. During that time I got bored and fired up my Noteworthy Composer program and started writing some music. This one is an incomplete, and it's based on something I would always play on the piano when I got bored. I added a third part to make it kinda interesting. I haven't finished it (since I added the third part I don't know what direction to go, I need to get my keyboard out and bang out a new part), but I like where it's going. But that could just be me, so I'm laying my pride out on the line and sharing with you guys what little I have. It's only a midi, but once I finish it I plan to record it live with some drums (don't have the ability to add drums yet... any suggestions as a cheap/free program I can use?) and with possibly different instruments/synth patches. Nonpareil Thanks for listening and I hope to get some feedback! And the finished piano version... Nonpareil EDIT: Just so I can have it in the first post... I reworked the above song (which the second half sucks, hence the reworking) with midi strings. I'm really proud of it so far... I plan for it to be at least 4 minutes long before I decide whether I'm done with it. Nonpareil (with strings, name subject to change) EDIT 2: The finished (albiet rough) version of this song, which is now called Fallen Angel is done. Check it at the myspace
From one composer to another... It sounds really nice so far. I also give you extra points for the MIDI format. It's so overlooked nowadays if you ask me.
I'm not really a composer.... I don't know the first thing about chords or melodic progression... I'm just being bored. Thanks though! I really need a keyboard so I can work out some new stuff for this... heh. EDIT: I've come to a finished point for version 1 of this song. I say version 1 because I"m sure I'll probably add new parts, extend the song, etc. to it. But as for now, it's a rough finished product. I'm leaving the unfinished version of the song up for historical purposes, but here is the 'finished' song, Nonpareil. Nonpareil
Well, I don't really think you need to know a lot of the technicalities of music to compose. But anyways... I like where it's going so far. I think it'd sound awesome with some backing strings. Maybe you could write a piano version and an orchestral version. Just a thought. Nevertheless, keep it up! I like it.
Dude, I don't think you give yourself enough credit. I almost missed your post about your string version since you didn't post about it here, but nevertheless, it's really good. It'd sound great with more real sounding strings, but you definitely have something nice as it is. Seriously, give yourself more credit man; it's a good effort. I personally think LPA folks aren't into classical music as say you and I are; so don't worry if people aren't commenting on your stuff here... It may not be their cup of tea. I could try and convert your current string version into a more "real" sounding track with strings I've got if you'd like. Not promising anything, but I could try. Keep up the good work though man, I dig it.
That's damn impressive if you don't know much about chords. Especially with the amount of variation you have in there. If this is one of your first works, you are way ahead of the game As far as making the music goes, I think I'm in the same position as you, in that, I don't know much but I just play around until something good sounding comes out. I personally just started messing around with keys about a week ago. I gave them a hip hop feel and I put a beat to them. I use a program called Fruity Loops to do all my composing. Let me know if you want some more info on that program but it comes with quite a bit of stock sounds/synths/snares etc.
Thanks! I would use Fruity Loops, but I have no torrent ability to attain it at the University. Oh, and I didn't post this before, but here's the CURRENT string version I have ready thus far. It's about 3:30 in length. I'm not sure where I was in the music the last time I posted it, but here is everything I have so far. Nonpareil (name subject to change) My really close friends really like this piece... and they've convinced me that I need to write a full album. I kind of have an idea of what I want to do next, which basically entails to what instruments I have in mind that I want to use. EDIT: At this point I'm really in doubt as to whether this should be in Artist Gallery or Other Music... what do you think, Kæton?
I don't know, really. It's up to you. Personally, I don't think it matters where it's posted. It depends on the people who view the thread. If they're interested, they'll view it, if not, well... yeah. Like I said, I don't know if others appreciate classical music as much as myself or perhaps you do. But I can move it to Other Music if you want. I personally think composition is more of an art form than a "genre"... But that's my own opinion.
Okay, I don't really care if anyone is posting or not, I was just wondering on a neutral standpoint where something like this would actual go. I actually created this thread in Other Music first, but then deleted it and posted it here, haha, if that's any indication as to my confusion. Just had some random inspiration and I've gotten the track to about 3:58... 2 more seconds minimum and I've met my personal goal for the song, although it could end up being more... just depends on where I go with it all.
UPDATE: I have a rough mix of the song finished. I also found a trial MIDI to MP3 program that works really well and translates the sound pretty well. You can listen to the full version of Fallen Angel (title taken from one of my favorite Bebop episodes, Ballad of Fallen Angels) at my myspace here. Thanks for all your support! I'm in the process of starting a new song too.
