I am so unbelievably pissed right now. I guess Capcom feels that us standard TV people don't matter because I bought Dead Rising yesterday with a 360, thinking "this game has looked so cool in ads I'm sure I'll love it!". Truth is? I don't. While the gameplay is nice and the graphics are beautiful, I do not see where Capcom gets away with thinking that TEXT is readable on a 32' inch standard TV. I spent about 20 minutes trying to read the conversations and eventually gave up. And furthermore, what game doesn't have audio when speaking to someone anymore? That's so 1990's. And now I gotta attempt to return it to walmart where they'll most likely accuse me of burning it or what not and not take it back, basically losing me 60.00. How pathetic. I may write Capcom and demand my 60 dollars back if I cant get it. I work in customer service so I know the result of bitching.
I have to agree, the text is near impossible to read on Dead Rising. It's a shame because the game itself is awesome.
If you look at the Dead Rising article on Wikipedia, Capcom has replied to the text issue basically saying that they're not going to do anything about it.
Exactly, which is why I want to return it but will most certainly raise hell with Capcom's customer support if I cant.
Good luck returning it to Wal-Mart. I tried to return a gameshark and the lady was like 'You cant get in store credit because you probably burned it and now you're taking it back" So I settled on a new copy of the same disk, figuring I could sell it on ebay, but then the bitch gets some scissors and cuts the fucking packaging open so I can't 'return it to walmart again new' so now it's useless.
Wal-Mart is stupid. I mean seriously, you can buy rated R AND unrated movies without ID but videogames? NOOOOOOOO.
This is one of the reasons I haven't brought Dead Rising for my 360, since I don't have a HDTV and don't plan on doing so anytime soon (don't have the money ), still you would think they would have tested it out on standard TVs I also read the text size being to small in the new game "Lost Planet" but they have since fixed that problem so cant see why they cant do the same for Dead Rising.
Yeah not having a HDTV sucks ass when trying to play DR: make sure no other light is on in your room apart from your TV and the text is much easier to read
I've got a really old CRT screen (like 20 inches) and I can read the text on Dead Rising just fine. Granted it is tiny but still readable. I do understand people getting annoyed about the issue. But I can overlook it cause Dead Rising is an awesome game, not as awesome as a lot of people make it out to me, but still awesome. And out of curiosity how much do you yanks pay for games? Cause here in Britain we pay the equivalent of $98 a game. So I just wondered how you'd all feel paying around $100 per game, cause I think its pretty frickin ridiculous.
They made an exception and allowed me to swap it for Splinter Cell: Double Agent, which amazingly still has small text but not half as bad.
Unfortunately this got the most attention when Dead Rising was released. Such an amazing game got the shaft because the developers don't care about standard TV users. No joke, the producer (same man who made Megaman) actually LAUGHED at standard TV owners saying "they should buy HD-TVs before buying Xbox 360s"... Which made me lose respect for the man. Honestly though, you don't need the text to play Dead Rising. You just need to know that the arrow is your friend. Dead Rising isn't easy to begin with, so I can understand your pain. A shame you didn't play long enough to get the real good stuff that the game has to offer...
I actually returned it because of that exact comment. I refuse to give money to arrogant assholes who don't appreciate what probably amounts to a good 80% of the gaming population.
Yeah, but that's the gaming industry, you know? Now more than ever, having the latest technology is expected of the industry because of how popular it's gotten in the last couple of years. Now that we're looking at more or less, entertainment consoles... The gaming experience is only half of it all. So naturally, those who do have HD-TVs don't remember that the average standard TV user is not as fortunate.
Welcome to next gen. All microsoft and sony care about is HDTV and making things look as pretty as possible. While Dead Rising is a great game, companies aren't focusing on gameplay as much as they should and they are completely bypassing things that should be the first concern. Personally, I could care less if the graphics are OMGZAMAZING, Im in it for the gameplay. This is exactly why I refuse to pay 500-600$ for a PS3. The games for it right now are not good, with the exception of Resistance: Fall of Man.
It didn't hurt me to sit a couple of feet closer to my tv. Either this whole issue has been blown out of proportion or I just have amazing vision.
Everyone always asks me why I dont PURCHASE games. This another reason why, any console game purchased usually amounts to severe disappointment.
