Ive been trying to hack my ps2 lately as well. For every hack you need some way of running unliscenced code which means making or buying a slidecard and factory pressed disk like a gameshark or action replay.

This is what you have to do. Get action replay with the USB memory stick, use some windows programs to make an exploit from a PS1 disk, then transfer it over to the memory card, 'uncrush' (unzip essentially) it with action replay to the mem card and from then on wheverver you use THAT ps1 disk it's going to trigger the exploit, letting you use the slidecard.

You cant do it unless you have a factory pressed: Swap Magic, Codebreaker, Action Replay or other mod chip disk. Wouldn't bother burning these either, they have to be factory pressed.

No, it says that you can do it using a PS1 disk, which I really want to do.

Nono, you need the ps1 disk to create the trigger that puts the ps2 in exploit mode, but you need some method of either swapping or copying to a memory card to get that file onto the mem card.

The guy who made this tutorial is an idiot. You can't just boot off a ps1 disk and then swap for a burned disk. You have to use something that freezes the memory like the newest gameshark, or replace system files on the memory card, like with the action replay that comes with the USB drive

Oh it was like 15 hours for me ;)

Seriously if you can get a network adapter for the ps2 and a good harddrive that hooks up to the connectors, paying 30$ for the action replay disk and usb stick would be worth it in the longrun. I needed it because I'm building an arcade machine with a ps2 inside and i cant rely on opening it and switching games all the time.

That all works if you have something to swap disks with or already have a modchip. Sorry, but I've been researching this heavily over the past month and there is no way to install an exploit or anything like that on the ps2 without either a modchip or some sort of swapping disk, or action replay.

Although, sadly, it's starting to die recently. >_<

You can independently put the hdloader on the memcard but you need a method still. There are no exploits without at least investing in something for it first.

Isn't PS2 modding cheaper these days? I know back then it was kind of expensive; not sure. I'd be the best method, imo, as the only thing you have to worry about is fucking up the soldering, but if you get someone to do that for you, no worries. Right? =/ I mean, no hassle of Gameshark exploits and whatnot.

You could even do it yourself if you have a steady soldering hand...which I definitely don't.

I managed to exploit mine last night. All I needed was an Action Replay disk, some software, a ps1 game and a usb key. Total cost - 60$ for the action replay (very overpriced I know), 30$ for the ps2. And 30$ for the gameshar k that didn't work but I cant return because Wal-mart accused me of copying it and then returning the original. Total cost for being able to play any game off an internal HD - 120$.
