Speaking with Rolling Stone while recording their anticipated third release, Linkin Park divulged a few new details concerning the album, slated for a 2007 release.

The band says that this recording cycle has been their most meticulous crafting yet. "The musicmanship is better, the arrangements are better and the quality of songs are better" says vocalist Chester Bennington. If fact, given this enhanced quality, the band says they plan to include more songs on the release than is normal for them, in addition to earning credits for soundtracks and video game releases. Currently, the band has whiddled down over a hundred demos to seventeen songs.

Furthermore, Linkin Park has experimented with a new approach in creating the latest disc: no particular formula at all. While in the past, the songs were primarily based off the instrumental music, then vocals, Delson says that this time "every song had its own unique evolution." From there, with producer Rick Rubin at the helm, the band would sit down toghether and rate each song: A and B for potential single and album-worthy tracks, C for compositions that could later be used, and a D to trash the work all together.

On another interesting note, the guys spoke about a new track called 'Accident', a working title given on account of Brad Delson's accidental riff. "The guitar sounds like AC/DC, the beat sounds like Motown, and there's a Stones-like groove to it. But it's got rapping and Clash-style vocals" remarks co-producer Mike Shinoda, who only hopes their latest will keep people from categorizing the group as rap-rock. "It's so different it may take people a beat to go 'I can't believe it's the same band. But hopefully their next thought will be 'F*ckin' Cool'."

    Sounds like hype to me

They're trying to gain a more mature fanbase I reckon. Not just with their lyrics but the sounds too. Looking forward to it.
Bit worried about Mr Hahn though. You hear about everyone's involvement in the new album except him! Hope there's still scratchin or I'm gonna be scratchin my head

I'm sure Hahn will add the finishing touches - that's what he does. :) I can't fucking wait to hear this track.

I would be beside myself if "London Calling" was a bonus track on the CD. I wanna hear LP interpret that song, with some Joe in there.

Hell no to that, no offense. :paperbag:

The Clash are classic. They should be left alone.

AC/DC-like guitar? Most AC/DC songs are like 3 chords with the exception of Angus' solos. >_<

I'd as well prefer they keep The Clash homages to a minimum. They're a fine band, just not conducive to a good Linkin Park disc.

that's badass. finally some new news beyond what we've already heard.

i doubt 'Accident' is going to be QWERTY b/c Mike mentioned "it's not rapping and Clash-style vocals", and i certainly remember QWERTY having rapping for sure. :)

this just makes me want the album even more! AAGH! the wait is torturous.

    Not categorizing as rap-rock?

Excerpt: But it's got rapping and Clash-style vocals" remarks co-producer Mike Shinoda, who only hopes their latest will keep people from categorizing the group as rap-rock.

Time-out time-out! Now let me get this straight. I think Mike isn't making any sense here.

His very words were "But it's GOT RAPPING
How can that NOT be categorized as RAP-ROCK?

Interesting news but that photo had me in histerics a minute ago. Rob looks like an OAP, Brad looks like he hasn't shaved or had a haircut in a few years and looks like he has an afro, Mike looks about 40, Chester looks like he doesn't know what the hell is going on and Pheonix looks like a trucker. Joe is the only one that looks slightly normal.

I just hope QWERTY makes the album because it's a fucking amazing tune and I'd love to hear a studio version of it, I have a feeling it may only be released in the LPU though...
