Phoenix and co. have announced that the long-anticipated third album is finally taking form. Speaking at the Fuse Fangoria Chainsaw Awards over the weekend, Phoenix claimed that "as of maybe a week and a half, two weeks ago, [the band] went from 30 down to 17-ish, song-wise." Unfortunetly, all else that was said during the interview was of no surprise to current fans:

Mike Shinoda: "Rick is one of those guys where you can go through any door you want to go through," Shinoda says. "We're trying everything, just messing around with it until it sounds good."

Linkin Park currently plans to release the disc in early 2007.

I got just a tad bit excited when I saw the news post, but it wasn't anything that exciting and new. Very good to hear that the album is coming together pretty quickly now.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say; Linkin Park's site should release some sort of a new layout, and a new teaser of some sort. Anything but the 'under contruction' site that we see now, just to get us all amped up again. And then near their release date, change, and re-work the site layout even more, relating more closely to their new album's artwork, and theme.

17 tracks? Hmm. Wonder how many they'll end up having.

I hope they stick with 17 tracks, that would be amazing. 17 brand spanking new Linkin Park tracks sounds mighty fine.

Remember how much hype there was around the release of Meteora? A.06 on the website, LPTV, the minute by minute anticipation for the first single...those were the days. I hope we see some of that again when the album gets near (in 2015)

don't linkin park release 12 or so high quality songs, then just release 5 or so others in B Side format to us through the underground, which we then appreciate as much as the 12 high quality songs?

i'd say they'll stick to their format, they're kinda supersticious about this stuff. remember the whole "we did everything the same as hybrid theory, even got mike to drive us to shows" thing

well as long as they're down to 17 specific songs, they should start taking their finals forms soon. those 17 should be what we see on the new album, maybe a couple will be LP underground releases. but i think this is great news!

Awesome! i too think they should give us something, now theyre down to 17 songs, they should limit to 12 or 13, then keep the rest for an underground 6 release. I still say they should hurry up and release it before the new year.

Its nice to hear that the albums coming together nicely.

I hope that they dont make any more cuts now, though. I want an album with at least 15 songs that is at least an hour long. 17 songs would be great! Also, I want al least one four minute song on this album, and the rest to be at least 3 minutes.

Oh, and they should release the 17 as an album, then release the 13 they just cut to LPU.

... going by what linkin park have done in the past, all our dreams will go unanswered, but we'll still love them because when it comes down to it, their music is better than any dream we could come up with

17 tracks is too long for a linkin park CD, I don't think they'd have more than 13, maybe 14.

I think of it this way:

If it's 17 tracks then maybe there will be an intro, outro and something in between from Hahn. That will knock the total actual songs to around 14-15.

I know I'm probably wrong but I wouldn't rule it out.
