I'm going to have to agree. Matt's singing voice is outstanding on most of the songs, but his Hetfield-esque singing voice isn't that impressive. He had similar vocals on Ascendancy, but it was better then because he wasn't actually trying to be Hetfield. His lyrics, also, are seemingly cliché and just don't jump out to me like they did on Ascendancy (even though a lot of the songs had really lame lyrics: "bleed out the blood"?—as opposed to?) The music itself is easily as good as what's on Ascendancy, though not by much. The drumming seems really uninspired on the album, but it's still good. I also liked how the solos on Ascendancy made you feel like you good sing the solos (it's something my friend and I do a lot). That doesn't really happen on The Crusade.
Hey I know this is completly off topic but does anyone agree with me that Trivium fucked up the re-release version of 'Blinding Tears Will Break The Skies' for the US re-release of Ascendancy? It's so much slower than the original version they did...
I Bet this is getting less better than Ascendancy, anyways, it looks like Trivium is going to be a bit softer then Ascendancy, cause i didn't like Detonation. And Entrance of the Conflagration, it's a sort Metallica Rip-Off
Ok, so sue me, I couldn't wait until October 10, so I downloaded it with BitTorrent. I have to say, this is a good album, but it's no Ascendancy. The songs are ridiciulously thrashy, and they sound nothing like anything off Ascendancy. Other than maybe Anthem and Detonation, there aren't really any memorable songs. The closest, in my opinion, are "And Sadness Will Sear" (Which is about the death of Matthew Shepherd, by the way), and "This World Can't Tear Us Apart", which I find to be the "Dying In Your Arms" of The Crusade, only more agressive, in the spirit of the new sound. Also, I have to say that most of the lyrics suck compared to Ascendancy. For example, here's a line from "Like Light to the Flies": "Devoutly wish for blinded eyes//This tragedy's like light to flies". Everything off The Crusade is basically like bland storytelling. The chorus from "This World...": "All the pain in this world can't stop us now//For we have each other//All the hate in this world can't tear us apart//This love is forever" No, I'm not kidding about the last line. So, compared to Ascendancy, obviously this album is nothing. But if you look at it by itself, it's really not all that bad. Not great, but not bad. I give it 7 out of 10.
I used to love trivium, only this album dissapoints me really bad, not a single trace of their own style, just a metallica copy...
I have to say, the new album is less of a Metallica copy. There's more other bands they copied too, like Slayer, Testament, Pantera, and countless other bands. But i like those bands, so i have to say, vocals aside, this is a great album, 7/10. With the vocals? 5/10.
I agree with you, and they shortened the end of the song in the re-recording too. I'm not that greatly bothered by it though but the original recording is definately better. The original is a little trebley though but other than that it's better than the re-recording. The original has more powerful vocals and is slightly faster. As for Trivium's new sound, I'm not that keen on it because it does replicate Metallica so much (and I'm not that big a fan of them ). There is definately a lot of technicality with their new sound and it somewhat resembles the sound of Heafy's other band Capharnaum in my opinion. The Crusade will not grow on me like their first two albums did. Trivium have lost their identity, they're are allowed to be inspired by Metallica but they shouldn't mimic them
Okay I'm listening to the album now and I just wanna go up to the band and demand that they re-release this album with screaming in it. Heafy's vocals just piss me off on this album (apart from on the world can't tear us apart and in most of the choruses) which is a shame because the instrumental side of things is awesome.
