I remember I thought they had a lot of potential when they first hit MTV and stuff, they seemed like an Australian version of Nirvana, and then they kinda just dropped off the face of the earth and last I heard their singer had all kinds of mental issues. I like them though.
Talk about the epitome of a band getting by on image and actions. Like Nirvana before them, the music is simple and connects with people (well, in this case, a few people). But, again, like Nirvana and basically any garage act (The Hives, anyone?), they have a short life/attention span to the general public and music publications, and have little talent other than their lead singer being an australian Pete Doherty, in terms of off-stage antics. Suffice to say, I don't have a high opinion on the Vines. I think their music is simple to the point that it's insulting, and they haven't attempted to change or progress their sound at all. Even motherfucking Linkin Park have done that, albeit in small steps. Their lead singer is a cock-jock and has no place being in the spotlight (what little of spotlight he does have anymore). He's not as bad as Pete Doherty, but he's an asshole and a general prick to fans and promoters alike. No go on the Vines for me, personally. Sorry.
I actually wrote a rant to Revolver magazine about how much The Vines suck ass and how they deserved to be in a metal magazine. It was published
well I for one, appreciate the music and dont really care about who it is playing it. see, for me image isnt everything. I'm sorry but dont u wonder about half the bands u listen too? most of them are assholes too. it goes hand in hand with sucess, sure its not anything to be proud of, but hey.
