Yes, technically it can run OSX. But, OSX is protected so it only runs on Apple computers. Now what Tomi's talking about is a hack that allows OSX to run on any PC. I don't recommend that because of things like missing drivers for non-Apple hardware. Also, as far as financing goes, the problem with that is interest, you'll end up paying more. If you want to finance it, try to find a credit card that has an introductory 0% interest rate for the first year. I have a Mastercard from HSBC with that, and as long as I make the minimum payment on time, there's no interest for that year. If you're going to finance, definitely try to get a credit card with that so you don't end up paying more in interest.
I have everything, minus wireless working on mine. ;] Of course, the display driver is sometimes screwy, but what do you expect?
I think I ultimately decided to wait a little. Yes I'll lose the discounting..but 1,600 is way too much to lay out.
I still think you'd be better off custom building a computer. If you need any help, just ask me. I mean, you could probably build something better and more fit to your needs for possibly less. [remember, the name/brand adds to the price when you're buying a pre-built computer]
Derek, do you really need a $1,600 computer? Unless you're a heavy gamer or do a shitton of video editing, a cheaper computer won't do anything the $1,600 one can do.
THAT WAS 1600? BE HAPPY YOU DIDN'T BUY IT. Why you ask? -------------------------------- 3.2 GHZ Pentium D Processor 940 with EM64T (Intel Viiv Technology) Intel processors run HOT, and although they have high GHZ, much of it is wasted, it's about the equivalent of an amd 2 GHZ. DL DVD+RW/CD-RW and DVD Rom Drives A dvd+rw is worth 45$ CAD for a good 16x one. 500GB Hard Drive Worth 200-230$ if you buy from a good computer store, not places like futureshop who still charge 250$ for a 160 gig maxtor that I can get for 38$ 2GB PC4200 DDR2 Memory What brand? If you get a generic brand, which you most likely will, it's going to have high latency no matter how fast it is. Not only that, it'll be unreliable Built in TV Tuner Oh noes. You can get one for 20$ Windows XP Media Center 2005 Useless, overpriced OS, and I mean it. Mostly meant for display computers or people like djs. Sure it looks good, but it's essentially useless. Nvidia GeForce 6200 Graphics Card (Supports up to 256MB Video memory) Outdated already. I have no idea why they put this in here...most likely a deal from nvidia It also comes with: Intel Virtualization Technology (i.e. the ability to have two different operating systems) You can run OSX sure, but why? 7 Total USB Ports Do you need to run 7 USB devices all at once Three firewire ports Do you need 3 (or any for that matter) firewire devices running? A wireless keyboard/USB optical two wheel mouse No brand stated? Generic....you can get this for 40$ 2 Expansion Bays Pretty standard. 21" LCD Worth about 300-400$ max. -------------------------- Plus you'd probably get a generic 400 watt power supply which would crap out after ~1 year. Derek for 1600, you might as well bend over so that they can... well you get the idea.
Right now I have a gateway notebook, and i'm happy with it. But if you're looking for something you're gonna like and something that will last, go with a mac.
Thank you so much Neil. You saved me from looking like a fool. Once I get about 2,000 more saved, I'll come back to you guys and you'll help me make a nice custom setup .
everyone has been going on about the Mac.will someone tell me how it compares with windows based PCs?
There was this site, X Vs XP, google it, I think it has some very nice comparisions of both the OSes. I've worked on Macs in my school for a short period on time, and their functionality and smoothness amazes me. Plus, from what I've heard, Mac can run both Windows XP and Windows Office, plus the recent versions have certain updates concering I think Windows only downloads or whatever. Being a n00b to the Mac world, this is my idea of it anyway. However, I love trying new things and definetly our next computer change (we switch like evry 3 years or so) we're definetly getting MAc. Flash and Photoshop have Mac versions- that's the only software that matters to me really, and Office.
