For the past two weeks or so, I've had problems downloading anything that even remotely has anything similar to do with a torrent. uTorrent loads the torrents fine and everything; but, after that, nothing happens. It reports that every single host is "not found," no matter what torrent I try to download (I've got one loaded that had over 2000 seeds). It's kind of frustrating and I want to know if anyone else has the same problem or knows how to fix it. Thanks.
I have no idea what you mean by encryption when dealing with torrents. Can you explain that to me? Maybe that's the problem since I have no idea what it is. Could it be that I'm on my laptop? I haven't used my desktop computer since before my surgery (since I can't navigate to it nor sit in the chair, ) so I don't know if the problem is on all my computers or not.
utorrent > options menu > preferences > bittorrent > protocol encryption > outgoing: [ Forced ] Your ISP may be scanning your packets [information sent to/from your computer] for bittorrent traffic. If it recognizes the packets as torrent traffic, then it'll either slow it down majorly or completely block it. With encryption enabled, packets are encrypted when they leave your computer then unencrypted when it reaches your peer's computer [or you], so your ISP can't read them properly and therefore is unable to mark them as torrent traffic. Make sense?
Yes, that does make sense. However, I forced encryption and the tracker status for all my torrents is still being returned "hostname not found." It's starting to really frustrate me.
Is DHT on or off? If it's on, try turning it off. If that doesn't work, you can also try going to the tracker's main website, then after you've done that, go to utorrent right click on the torrent and click Update Tracker.
i faced this prob on azureus but utorrent is usually hassle-free.when you get well try it on your desktop and check it out
Firstly, if you want it, buy it. Secondly, look up port forwarding on google. I would, but I've done it like 99x on here for people. Try this http://p2p.weblogsinc.com/2005/04/2...ur-router-to-allow-fast-bittorrent-downloads/
I don't think port forwarding would be the problem; it would just slow down the torrent, not completely stop it. lmfao @ devillz eyes
I don't think it has anything to do with port-forwarding, either. Torrents just randomly stopped working one day and I don't know why. I can still do all sorts of other downloading (including P2P and IRC). But I still can't download any torrents. It's beginning to bug the heck out of me. "Tracker Status: hostname not found" That's all it says. It cycles through several hostnames (if the torrent has more than one) and it can't find any of them at all. And for the record, none of the hostnames require a membership. Even if they do, I never have to sign up for some reason (i.e. I can download from Demonoid without a membership and I don't know why). So I'm at a loss here.
I never had to sign up for Demonoid, so I don't know what people are talking about. You just get slower speeds [due to the ratio system] if you're not a member. I think. Do you have a firewall, such as ZoneAlarm installed? http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=8488
Well, BitTorrent is working on my desktop computer, but not my laptop. I don't know. I'll have to look into why.
Kind of off-topic a little. Maybe not, but do you download anything you want there as much as you want? When I wasn't a member it would only let me download 3 downloads a week. Maybe if you're just using Demonoid all of the time it's not going to let you keep downloading from there because you've used your max downloads. Even when I deleted my cookies and everything, it still said I'd already used my 3 downloads. I'm not any expert on port-forwarding and stuff like that, although I've done it, but maybe that's it. Try getting something from somewhere else if you haven't, but you probably have, and this post is probably a waste.
I've got the same firewall installed on my desktop and the permissions on both computers are the exact same. I gave up on my laptop, though. My dad yelled at me when he found out I was using it to download music instead of using it for college. @zakrisk I don't know about Demonoid but I've never had to sign up. The downloads always finish in a respectable amount of time, too.
Busted. Try disabling the firewall to see if it works or not, even though the settings are the same, it could still be a problem there. *shrug*
